I just don't want to work on anything anymore. I've been losing motivation over time already but never being able to play Prism is the straw that broke the camel's back, since I'm a Johtotoddler. I need to finish the last few songs for Polished Crystal I've been asked to do (SM's Mother Beast theme is so fucking hard to cover) and then I'm probably just going to stop paying attention to the hacking scene for a few months.

I know Polished Crystal likely won't get targeted, and neither would my own hack if I ever finished it, but watching something go so far and get cut off so short demoralizes me so much. I just don't see the point in hacking when fate can do this to you.

Currently replacing gen 3 shitters, superfluous legendaries, and non Kanto starters with cross gen evolutions, babies, some fossils and a few personal gen 4 favorites.

The best games to hack are Fire Red, Crystal, and probably Emerald - there's more ASM, tools, and scripting documentation done on these than the DS generations. Some have managed, but there aren't many. There's a Fire Red hack that replaces Kanto mons with Gen 5 and Johto mons with Gen 6 (I think), so it's fairly simple to do that - just really time consuming. There are even easily insertable sprites for those generations done, just save and plug into your preferred editor.

Findings so far:
Pallet Town houses are like the lab but silver and ugly
CRIS spelled in flowers in Pallet, some minor map changes like extending the inlet
The girl is now a PC
Zygarde10 and Janmo-o on Route 1
Virtually nothing else changes
Works in A-Map! Findings: You need to copy your A-Map ini folder to the same folder as the .gba to get anything else
Works with the version of g3hs it has, presumably by copying the .ini it will work with any g3hs
Does not work in Advance Starter (only goes to 386) or Hopeless Trainer Editor (again, only goes to 386)
Aside that, nothing else changes. There's a fuckton of Pokemon, and I think the National Dex is enabled from the beginning.

I looked over some things and some Gen 7 pokemon are missing sprites along with abilities.

It seems to be built on top of MrDollsteak's ROMbase.

I haven't tested if all mons have their respective cries, but I highly doubt it, because then the ROM would probably be expanded to 32mb.
Another indicator of this is that the Pokemon were most likely expanded (to 922) by G3HS which is outdated and buggy, and doesn't expand the crytable, which means all the mons past Chimecho just use Bulbasaur's cry.

It's something, I guess.

I'm trying to cut out the music from Prism and looking at the .gbs file from Crystal to figure it out.
Do I just look at the offsets in the map file and delete everything not remotely related to music? Do I just need the ROM banks with music in them, or the engine as well? Will I need to rearrange shit?

This is the last straw, because that rom base looks awfully tempting to use but I really want to keep a completeable dex.
Can someone upload me a PGE with ini that will automatically work with a rom patched with MrDS' base? Something in a folder that I can move my patched 1.5a rom to and have it work without giving me "numberofevolutiontypes missing!" errors?

It got finished, C&D'd four days before release (it was going to be a Christmas release), then a version that was like 99% done got leaked and people have been playing that. It has some bugs and a few things aren't obtainable due to oversights (e.g. Sylveon can't be gotten because of an error with the evolution method), but can be beaten from start to finished.

This is probably too late to be helpful, but yes, if you catch one of the Pokemon in those slots the game will crash. They aren't safe to use and there's no reason to use them anyway; you can just expand the Pokedex, either by hand or with a tool.

I try to make carefull buffs and not go nuts in retyping or expanding movepools.
For example, I boosted Slugma and Magcargo +20 in all BSTs, putting them on par with the Swinub line and capable of pulling their weight through the campaign.
I'm toying with buffing Ledyba and Sunkern line as well - dual typing their evolutions as FIghting and Fire, respectively. The thought occurs with Hoot-Hoot as well, though with the addition of the Starly line, old Hootsy is looking superfluos compared to Spearow and Taillow. Maybe Dark subtyping?

It depends what sort of hack you're making.
Playing through a difficulty hack of Pt, it was very helpful to have all mons buffed to 500BST minimum (although single stage mons were near gamebreaking early on).

500 is a lot, so doing +20 buffs (like in XY) would probably be best. Real shitmons you could give a +40 buff like in SM. Giving Magcargo +20 in everything isn't much use, you may as well just give it +80 and ignore its speed and attack.

Re-typing is up to you, just please, let the player know. Constantly losing my electric coverage team members because I missed the "Gyarados is now Draogn/Water" note was painful. Be wary of retyping a pokemon and making it worse as well, I've seen a few ice/rock Lunatone and fire/rock Ssolrock.

Well, of course I'm documenting EVERYTHING for the player's benefit.
Not doing it for difficulty either. I want the player to be able to play with their favorites without having to grind them a lot - even if their favorites are hot dog shit like Slugma/Magcargo.
I'm not re-typing stuff because it's cool, I'm re-typing to try to make shitmons viable; hence Ledyba/Sunflora. Who seriously carries Sunflora to the Elite Four? Or Ledyba? Fucking nobody. I personally LIKE bug types, I want them to be viable beyond the second gym. I expect to have to come back and forth on buffing them.
As for retyping because I think it's cool, well...
Take Charizard. It's a salamander, not a Dragon. Its final form happens to LOOK much like a classic western dragon, but it's not.
Gyarados also looks like a classic eastern dragon and it gets lumped in with Lance because there aren't many actual dragons. But is it a dragon? Fuck no, it's a fish! It's a goldfish that becomes a big fucking trout or something. By that logic you might as well make Milotic flying because Feebas is basically the ugly duckling in Pokemon form.
Now as for Solrock, okay, I kind of get that. Rock/fire is a neat typing, and I guess Rock/ice makes sense - but it's a fucking moon, if anything it should be Rock/fairy, and then that just doesn't make much sense at all since you'd think a rock/fairy would be some sort of golem and by proxy you'd need to make Solrock Rock/fairy, at which point what the hell would you even be doing? But I digress.

I counted seven when I ran through it, so you've probably got them all. Where did you get these on PC? I need a reliable Mimikyu set - the one I got off DA and edited to make 256x64 has a fucked up shiny - pic related. Kind of cool in a way, like the rare shiny Mimikyu could hint at it's fae and fell true appearance, but this isn't LOTR it's fucking Pokemon.
Also need a Buzzwole, he really makes a great counterweight to Mewtwo in my opinion.

Just gonna rattle off some thoughts about the evolution of this map:
I'm working on getting rid of Gyms as literal gyms - so here Brock would hold his gym in an underground cave and though he would tend primarily to rock and ground types, he would also carry a few fairies and fossils due to proximity to Mt. Moon. To this end I've replaced shit like Spinda, Castform, Plusle and Minun with Mimikyu, Archen, Tyrunt, and Amaura and others with their evolutions where applicable.
On that note, some places would still have building gyms like Saffron, but others like Cerulean will be in a cove-like structure, Lt. Surge will be at the Power Plant, Erika would be in a forest, and so on.
I'm also expanding maps further, if only to do neat tricks with them that border blocking may not allow, like doing mountain slope tiles: pic related on this older recent draft of Route 1.
Expanding the maps means I have to work harder on them to keep a cohesive unified world map put together. They didn't have to in Gen 1/2/3 but they did, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Another thing about this map is that it still holds traces of the old elemental/type clans which were basically pseudo-gyms; this was to indulge my interest in anthropology and history and to also fit the Hoenn and Johto legendaries; since I've replaced those, regular pseudo-gyms replace these baroque little clans and sort of excise the tumor they put in the plot.
As for plot, it's straightforward. A bit of an expansion of the Team Rocket/Mewtwo plot that involves the Elite Four more closely, but that's sitll in design stage.
There may be subplots involving the pseudo-gyms; at a certain point I will need scripting help, but that's still a ways away and I can do most essential (and tedious) stuff myself. It is my opinion that in the hacking community you only get help if you present a legitimate project that has had quite a bit of work done already.

I'm just sitting here watching Star Trek and tinkering with a spreadsheet to create a custom national dex, making careful replacements in gen 2's list and trying to rebuild Gen 3's with mons from 4-7. Don't want too many Alolans, but some of them are pretty cool, like Golisipod and Buzzwole. Others are superior to gen 2 mons, like Zigzagoon/Linoone>Sentret/Furret.

I'm considering at least drafting a fleshed-out region based on the northernmost parts of Europe, since I feel like they have some very rich history that got ignored with Kalos which was pretty much France and Italy the Generation. I'm essentially smashing together Ireland, Scotland, Greenland (>Europe), Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Poland (>Northern Yurop), and Germany (>Northern Yurop).

The geography and general flow of the region move away from the layout we're used to and instead trends south and west with a wall of mountains on south side and the open ocean on the north. The route and city layout is asymmetrical and interconnected. Cities move from larger and gentrified areas to more rural areas, with (hopefully) each route having some unique traversal gimmick (within limits; don't want it to get too predictable or samey) with a series of gorges spanning several separate routes.

Any suggestions for base ideas for Pokemon? Animals, objects, concepts, myths? It helps if they're sourced from that general geographic region but they don't have to be. One of the best part of the games is seeing what foreign Pokemon show up to surprise you.

I feel like "Northern Europe" might be too broad, especially with the wide scope you're giving it. You've got Celtic, Norse, Inuit, East Slavic, West Slavic, and German/Pagan culture all going on at once.

It seems like you intend on altering the geography pretty heavily, so I can't really give an opinion on the mapping until there's at least a draft, but I'd say you might want to do something like have Scandinavia be the primary focus/core of the region, with the other Baltic cultures like Russia and Germany maybe just having a devoted themed area around the edges of the map. Britain and Ireland would make an excellent post-game area, if not a full-blown second region entirely. With the huge potential that you could get from Celtic and English/Arthurian mythology though I'd say incorporate them into the mainland/main story path.

You could make a dozen Legendary Pokémon from the Norse Pantheon alone. Plenty of material for regulars too, like Ice Giants and Valkyries.
A sword-in-the-stone Pokémon. But it'd be hard to differentiate it from Aegislash.
A Pokémon based on Cú Chulainn. Probably would work best starting out as an actual hound/wolf, then evolving into a humanoid. Gaé Bolg could be incorporated as a stick it carries in its mouth as a dog, which evolves into a spear when it becomes humanoid, and gains a signature move to use it.

Look, fairy and new moves and shit is just fine but people need to understand that too many is too fucking many. Create a custom dex or use the shit in the base, but I have a hard time even with Drayano's hacks when it comes to catching all these bastards.

There are about 800 Pokémon, so even in a massive region with 40 Routes like Johto + Kanto there'd still be 20 Pokémon per route on average.

Obviously there's encounter areas other than Routes, most Legendary and other unique Pokémon would be stationary single encounters, and you obviously don't need every separate member of each evolutionary line catchable in the wild, but the point is if you actually want to make every Pokémon obtainable in a single game it's pretty hard to do smoothly.
If you just try to cram everything in you get shit like having 14 kinds of shitmon on Route 1.
