I did the same thing with cottonee back in XY. Got a random 5IV Japanese one from wondertrade, but didn't have a sun stone to evolve him (I had a lot of heliolisks), so I tried eviolite cottonee for a while. If you've got team support to take knock offs, try it for a while. If it isn't pulling its weight, evolve it.
