I can see how Escavalier borrows traits from Shelmet when it evolves, but what the hell do Accelgor and Karrablast have in common? It doesn't really look ninja-y, it's not particularly fast, and all its dex entries talk about is how it evolves when attacking Shelmet

Accelgor is meant to look like a de-shelled snail. You could argue that it's just because Karrablast's horn pries Shelmet's armour off and steals it. Accelgor doesn't necessarily -have- to take any design inspiration from Karrablast at all.

That's not the point. Shelmet's shell was holding it back. Shedding it let it become stronger.
Shelmet doesn't gain anything from Karrablast, it's not an equal exchange in material terms.
