I mean, Nintendo really loves to add Pokémon to Smash, and personally, I wouldn't have a problem a problem if he's added as a DLC (if the leaks about Smash just getting ported to Switch are true) or as a new character for the next one. What bothers me about Greninja is that he got a great ability for no understandable reason to me. He also got a much better stat spread than the other two starter with moves to back it up. It's also the only Kalos starter to basically get a mega form as an ability. And personally he is one of my least favorite designs in whole series so seeing him so much every where since 2013 has been annoying to me.

He was even in smash 4. It's like how if you hated Charizard or Pikachu I think, expect Charizard wasn't the one Kanto starter that got a mega and it needed a stone, even if it got two and Pkachu's special stuff has never been OP.

Sorry for the rant, I have strong feelings against Greninja

I do think you are right that Incineroar will see some good play in the VGC once we get access to his HA. I just prefer singles myself so I'm a bit sad he won't be as of much use to me in that format. Then again I think the prep work in order to play Pokemon competitively is still so insane without injecting in the Pokemon, I'm not sure I'll even bother anyway.

Me too, but it does make some sense how it lost some speed. He went to being on all fours to bipedal, that's going to cause anything to be slower. I just don't think it justified a speed stat loss of 30. Plus he really doesn't look like he is build for special attacks anyway.

Hey guys. I know this isn't really the best thread to be asking this, but as I'm writing this there isn't any teambuilding threads up, so this is the best I could do:

I've been experimenting lately with a assvest Incineroar and I'm having trouble deciding what the final moveslot should be. Here's my build:

Adamant nature, 252 EVs in HP and attack, 4 in special defense. Darkest lariat, Flare blitz, and Earthquake. I'm struggling with what the last move should be. Any suggestions?

U-turn is probably your best bet because of momentum grabbing. Leech Life gives you some nice recovery, Cross Chop if you have T-tar problems, Fake Out if you abuse Toxic or burn or if you need to stall out the weather

I don't feel like Assault Vest is worth it until his HA is released.
However, I think you could go for either Leech Life or U-turn.

An slow U-turn could be good to scout hits and allow another fragile Pokémon switch in without fear of losing half of his HP.

On other hand, Leech Life is his only damaging recovery move, so he doesn't get worn down too easily.

I say U-turn, unless you want him to last longer.

I fell in love with Chesnaught line when I first saw Chespin, and I'm still mad how he and Delphox got so cucked for the frog. I guess he was designed with the intention of being cool ("Imma ninja guyz, 2 cool 4 u, I even for my type"). I don't really hate him, but honestly, I don't care about him at all.

I'm actually really happy he's great in doubles, cause I like it a lot more than singles, maybe you should give it a try.
And I know breeding a perfect Mon and EV training him is really time consuming, especially if you're aiming for a shiny (and this comes from a breedfag), but Showdown is always an option, and honestly, I like playing there more than in cartridge.

Yea half the reason I was so mad that Greninja got all this great stuff was that it left Chesnaught and Delphox in the dust. The Fennekin line managed to remain pretty popular though and Braixen managed to get into Pokken which was cool but still the Chespin line really got left behind.

I like to actually play on cartridge and have done so since gen 4 but I've never been able to stand all the unplayer friendly bullshit that stands in the way. So I've always hacked in my legal mons to play. But when gen 6 came out at first I couldn't do that so I actually breed a team and had probably the most fun in battles I ever had before Pokebank came out and ruined it for me. I would like to get back into it but I really just can't stand the IV system. I can deal with EVs, egg moves, natures. But I hate IVs, they are just a time waster and I no longer have the time to waste like I once did. If I could make a new team, I would be willing to try out doubles this time.

And that makes sad. I mean, Chesnaught is my favorite grass type, along with Ferrothorn. But his whole was left behind, with little no merchandise or something, everything was Greninja (at least Delphox got something decent with Pokken). But, it seems like Incineroar is actually pretty popular this gen, I say tied with Tapu Koko and Rowlett, so, maybe this time things will be different for my favorite Mon.

I got into competitive last gen, and I actually bought Power Saves just to save time in things like items and shiny Pokémon (and later, genning some perfect Ditto for breeding purposes). I haven't bought Sun/Moon yet, and I don't even know if IV codes are available right now, but you can try and ask for someone to help you and give you perfect mons (or at least Ditto, do it's not so time consuming). If you can, you should try double battles, I find them to be a lot more fun.
And I said, Showdown is always there, so you don't have to deal with the BS that the whole IV mechanic is.

I just don't liking using showdown, even though it does save on time, I really only ever used it to test my teams out a bit before I spent time breeding them in gen 6. The Litten line seems really popular this gen so I think we will be seeing a bunch more of them, which is nice. I have a 6IV shiny ditto in my copy of Y, I'm just waiting for Pokebank or if I get back home from the holidays first I might try homebrewing one of my old 3DSs and just try injecting them in or whatever.

In all honestly if Game Freak just spent a whole generation finding a way to remove or complete streamline how the IVs work to the point where it is clear to see them and simple for the player to control them without spending hours breeding. I would fucking thrilled. They keep pushing for post game to be competitive online play in the games but breeding the Pokemon for it is complete ass. Anyone who really thinks removing the IVs wouldn't improve the games overall is crazy to me as I've never heard a legit reason to keep them.

The Fennekin and Chespin lines were the Kalos starters I liked the most from the get go as well. I don't like how Greninja is being treated like god's gift to the world while Chesnaught and especially Delphox get shafted. Both in terms of movepool, and Delphox in terms of a fucking shitty HA. I'm really hoping that one day the Kalos starters will get megas, and the other two won't be put to shit. I wonder what a Fur Coat Mega Delphox would be like.

I grow so used to Showdown, that even in XY and ORAS, I used to play more there than in cartridge, but I guess it's just not your thing.

He seems popular right now, but I want to wait until February or March to tell who's the most popular. But, even if Incineroar turns out to be the most popular this gen, I don't want him to become Greninja 2.0, in terms of how much GF pushes and shove popular things down our throats.

And I agree. They should do something, like remove every value outside of 0, 1, 30 and 31. That way, breeding would be really easy, and you could even use your in-game mons if you're lucky. And it would also keep Hidden power working, the whole "every Pokémon is different, but that means useless because they have terrible IVs" should be gone by now.

As much as I love Incineroar, I agree I don't want him to become Greninja 2.0. The whole reason EVs and IVs were make the Pokemon feel different from each other of the same type but in competitive that is moot like 95% as it's almost always the best for the Pokemon to EVs in certain stats and to have max IVs where it can.

I dunno why they hated Chespin and Fennekin so much, design wise I thought nothing was wrong either of their lines expect the 3d models could have been done a bit better. I dunno why Greninja got a god tier HA, like I said before nothing about warranted it having it other than to make it good. Nothing about it's design, concept, or typing gives any hints on why it should have it, it just does. The other two have HA that make sense for them, as well as being far less useful. Plus Greninja already had the best stat spread for competitive play before it's ability anyway. Plus the move tutor gave it even more moves to use that just made it stronger.

The only way Delphox and Chesnaught will see competitive play now is if they one day get good Mega forms or their stats are changed around quite a bit. But even then their move pools are still kind of meh.

If he ever achieves that level of popularity, it would be pretty neat. I mean, he would get tons of fanarts, merchandise and maybe even added to Smash as DLC or something. But, at the same time, this fanbase is pretty good, nice and comfy; making him so popular would only attract normies and autistics like half of Charizard and Greninja fans, and I'm not sure if I want that to happen.
IV were good before, but now that Pokémon wants to be an actual competitive game, it has no place outside of maximum values (or minimum, for Trick Room, getting less damage from confusion).

Maybe next gen, a man can dream after all.

I think he's popular enough for those things to happen as it is now, plus I think the leaks for the anime say Ash gets Litten and that it will evolve but I don't much stock into leaks usually but it would help his popularity.

I do strongly believe if Pokemon wants to be consider a serious competive game it needs to remove at the very least the IVs from the game, they are too much of a barrier to entry especially in a game who's target audience is children. And they don't really add much in terms of the gameplay.

Varied thoughts:

Design-wise, despite the initial uproar over him being bipedal and human-esque in limbs, I feel like Incineroar's popularity as both cat (via Litten) AND tiger as well as personality (be it violent jerk a la Pokedex or hammy heel with a heart of gold) will make him a fixture this generation - even future ones. I wouldn't be surprised if his feet and hands become more feline-ish in official art (like how fan art does it already) to stress that more since everyone loves cats. I don't think anyone'll bitch on his proportions otherwise if that happens and even his Dream World art genuinely, if only sorta, hints at paws and digitigrade feet just the way his hands scrunch up and legs bend. That piece's way of showing it is really all they need to inch to.

I also love fan art that make him cat-like (in personality or the aforementioned cat-like hands/feet becoming paws), and like him best when his torso is more on the lithe side than super buff/expanded. Helps his longer limbs and big yaoi paws look less weird.

Also, even with his current lack of HA being available, I enjoy him as a tank. Assault Vest, focusing on HP and Defense otherwise (with the remaining 4 EV in Attack), and Leech Life for recovery alongside Flare Blitz/Darkest Lariat/Cross Chop.

As for Peaceful Incineroar threads, I remember a new one cropped up immediately once the image limit for the last major one last week was hit, and everyone collectively and respectfully agreed to wait till this week for new art to show up. And even then we still got twenty replies' worth of actual discussion. That's pretty cool, I think.

I was doubtful at first, but after a few days, I fell in love with Litten's design, the leaks just made me love him even more, specially when Incineroar was confirmed to be real.

I love when artists depict him either as a big house cat or as a jerk with heart of gold. I like both when they draw him either tiger like or more human like, both have their unique charm.

I can't help but feel GF sabotaged Chesnaught and Delphox on purpose just to make Greninja look even better by comparison. Its HA compared to the other two supports this because while Delphox's is pretty much worthless and Chesnaught's is extremely situational, Greninja's is borderline broken when coupled with its speed.

Its the one who learns the most varied moveset by leveling up with some moves not even making sense like extrasensory because why the fuck would a ninja be able to learn that? It also got the better stat spread too whereas Delphox's is good but suffers from a case of nomoves syndrome and Chesnaught is hella tanky...on the physical front and needs an assault vest to really tank hits. Say what you want about GF shilling Charizard and playing favorites there, at least Blastoise and Venusaur got at least SOMETHING in the form of megas. I get that Greninja is popular. And when something is popular, the company that made the popular thing will exploit the fuck out of it, so I can definitely see why GF pushes Greninja more than the other two.

But that doesn't mean they can just treat Chesnaught and Delphox (and by extension their fans) like they don't exist or worse, just fodder for Greninja to take down as if to say "if you picked either of these two you are wrong and if you prefer them over me you're both wrong and stupid." I have to agree with you, anyone with a brain should have been able to see before the game launched at GameFreak that Greninja's HA was clearly one of the best abilities they had ever made and that it completely overpowered the other starters. I'm completely fine with them wanting to make the starters be competitively viable but they have to do it will either all 3 of them or none of them cause otherwise it is unfair to those that like the starter that is left behind.
