Colosseum and Gale of Darkness were steps in a good direction. It was pretty different to the standard fare of main line Pokemon games and I wish to see more of them. I wonder how many of GF's dumb decisions are actually just Nintendo forcing them to be mediocre to maximum profit. if you provide a game that caters to parts of the player base better than the official games do then those players may not feel the need to buy official games. the games may also tarnish the series' image. on the other hand, they can foster interest in the series during downtime and the presence of a healthy modding community strengthens brand loyalty, at least among modders who have made an investment of time. on balance it seems like knee-jerg litigiousness which by the way is bullshit because trademark law is only concerned with products or services ie those prepared for sale. at the very least nintendo would get nominal damages and a lot of bad press
