Maybe you're not using it correctly.

Assault Vest goes best with Pokemon who can take a hit, hit back just as hard, all without requiring status moves. It's best if they have good natural physical bulk and just need to patch up their special defense. If they can also somehow get recovery, the better.

As you can see, the Assault Vest is really only useful for a select amount of Pokemon, but it makes a big difference on those Pokemon.

Alright you shits, here's the criteria for assault vest users
-High HP with passable sp.def is worth more than low HP with high sp.def
-Movepool that consists of attacks that offer utility, recovery, priority or pivoting. (rapid spin, drain punch/leech life, dragon tail, bullet punch/aqua jet, u-turn/volt-switch)
-Abilities that offer sustainability or immunities, (regenerator, sap sipper, lightning rod, guts)
When using assault vest your aim is to tank attacks you would usually not be able to take, and hit back. You can act as a bulky pivot if you have recovery.

It does get Ice Punch and Thunderpunch to mess with them, and enough physical Bulk to hold fast against their attacks.

since an assault is meant to be a decisive attack, it makes sense to forgo status moves since the ultimate goal is to just knock them out

Kommo-o already gets Dragon Dance, its speed is honestly fine. It's already faster than Dragonite and (Mega) Gyarados, both of which are exemplary Dragon Dancers. What it truly lacks is power, especially a strong physical Fighting STAB. Nigga NEEDS Close Combat or someshit. Or just Drain Punch if you want to try an Assault Vest set for funzies. Once it gets intimidate, yes. It'll be one of the best assault vest users in the game most likely. But until then, you'll have to make due with blaze. I'm running an ass vest Incineroar myself and it helped me get to battle 50 in the battle tree it was so tanky.
