The 3DS will be gradually phased out like every handheld before it.
It will keep getting a few games for the next year or so but no big name Nintendo games.

It might get one more Pokemon game because GameFreak is always slow to adapt, but after that Pokemon will move to Switch like everything else.

Stopping production of the 3DS would be fucking retarded because people are still buying 3DS and not everyone is going to buy a Switch right away. The only reason they're stopping Wii U production so early is because the Wii U is selling terribly and they're just losing money by producing more of them.

The PS2 was in production for years after the PS3 came out despite the PS3 obviously being meant to be a replacement.

They are sticking with the usual tactic of giving the new platform 2 years to prove itself before releasing a Pokémon game for it. GBC released in 1998 and Crystal, its only Pokémon exclusive came in 2001. GBA released in 2001 and gen 3 came worldwide in 2003. DS released in 2004 and DP came out worldwide in 2007. Gamefreak is very conservative and only releases to a large, established install-base.

Why are GF such pussies? I'm sure new Nintendo consoles would have great initial sales if Pokemon had a new game ready for them when they came out.

And while Sun and Moon has a lot of improvements, and to some degree maybe understandable drawbacks, I personally get the feeling GF lacks a lot of brainstorming or simply guts when it comes to implementing new features into the game, as well as bad design ideas (like flying pokemon floating permanently like Charizard or Tropius and some iddle animations being retarded).

How hard can it be to try something slightly diferent. They already took a step in the right direction (imo) with trials and Kahunas, I hope this is the beginning of a few more changes for the better for Pokemon.

The XL is already too big for my taste, to the point I waited 2 years for the standard model N3DS to come out in North America. Switch is even fatter and wider than that. You'd look like a retard trying to play it in public. Not that I play my 3DS in public anyway, but I'm sure some kids do and THEY would be put off by this fucking iPad monstrosity. Switch is most certainly NOT a portable. 99% of people will never take this out of the home.

I'm expecting a mainline Pokemon game on the Switch. However, I'm not holding my breath for Generation 7 to show up. The third game, sequels, or whatever remakes (Kanto or Sinnoh) will be on the 3DS.

There's nothing to indicate that Nintendo is making a successor to the 3DS.
