As far as the US goes, there are pretty clear divides between "cold regions", "fire-type regions" and "ground-type regions". I assume the cold regions are meant to have ice types, but ended up with Drowzee and Nidorans instead because there are so few (loads of Jynx, though). Unless you live in a region where fire-types spawn regularly, you'll almost never see them outside of nests.

If you look at the base stats, a lot of Pokemon have comparable stats to Vaporeons. Vaporeons just have an extra 100 HP or so which gives them a few hundred extra CP over the others.

But I think this isn't bad because this means my 1300 CP Water Gun / Hydro Pump Seadras and Starmies can prestige the shit out of 3k Rhydons and Arcanines without lacking in power.

It's Stamina is pretty low but it's Attack and Defense are by no means terrible, it has access to RL/SB, and Oddish are abundant. It's of course worse than Treeman and Flowertoad but can reach decent CP and are very easy to train. I would have included Victreebel before the nerf.

So I'm new to the Gym scene, been playing since release, just kind of taking gyms every once in a while for some coins, not paying attention, blowing through revives and shit, I just like exploring and catching

However, my girlfriend and I went gym hunting last night, took 4 in rapid succession and got more than one gym on our daily reward for the first time, and also for the first time I have a gym that has lasted 24+ hrs

How to get started battling efficiently? How important are IVs, really? I'm trainer level 23, ALMOST 24, waiting for the xmas event to pop a lucky egg and hopefully get 26 with all the shit I've stockpiled since Halloween, and my strongest pokemon are a 2024 Vaporeon, 2013 Exeggcutor, and the rest are <1700 randoms

Victrebel has an higher attack stat, meaning it's better for prestiging.

Razor Leaf has a slower cool down but does more damage. 15 damage/1.45 second cooldown = 10.3 damage per second, as opposed to 10 damage/1.05 second cooldown = 9. 5 damage per second (before STAB).

In addition, Vileplume is best used on Attack against Water types, like Vaporeon. Razor Leaf is then doing 1.25x extra damage that Acid does not provide.

Also, Vileplume has 30 more Defense and only 5 less Attack.

Depends on phone and latency. Go experiment and figure it out. The game does a very shit job of telegraphing the exact moment when you should be dodging.

Yes.
Side reminder that dodging means you only take 25% instead 100%. Not perfect but it still matters.

The game doesn't do a good job of telling you when a Pokemon is attacking or using a charge move because of latency and the standing-still animation bugs so a lot of it is guess and checking.

Personally I don't bother dodging for quick moves because it takes several times longer and I do less DPS.

practice. Learn the attacks, weaknesses and timings. Training up friendly gyms will make you git gud the fastest.

they're pretty much only important for defenders, but it's always better to have high IVs on mons that you'll be powering up to the max regardless of their role.
For example, a level 30 Vape with 100% IVs will have 150 CP more than a level 30 Vape with 50% IVs. The difference is pretty negligible when you attack with it, but that bit of CP might be what lets you put your mon on top of the gym rather than the bottom.

The surprising thing is that nintendo has left niantic in charge of this thing the entire time when its clear they have no god damn clue what they're doing.
There are still countless incredibly glaring bugs and design flaws existent in the game since release that the company does not even acknowledge, much less make an effort to resolve.
My only conclusion I can come to is that nintendo does not WANT this game to succeed. That's the only logical reason they would allow niantic to remain in charge, barring some kind of contract nobody has spoken about as of yet

One might argue that with the crazy amount of revenue and popularity niantic has received entirely due to pokemon being attached to the game (not due to anything they have actually done themselves, mind you), in conjunction with having the brand resting on their shoulders, that it would be their duty to resolve these issues and develop true content, but again thats kind of a separate issue also

they're technically the best defenders in my opinion because the main constraint when taking gyms is time (you can argue that resources are but I've never thought potions or revives were an issue. If you have enough gyms around that you're running out of them then most likely you have enough pokestops to restock)

but that being said, the payoff for having a snorlax/chansey isn't worth the detriment to your team for anyone trying to prestige on it.

if a gym has 3 snorlaxes or 3 gyarados won't matter to an attacker on the other team who can just use their strongest mons, but it makes a massive difference to your own team trying to prestige it up

The only factor that matters is time. So the mons with no hard counters are the beste defenders e.g. Snorlax and Lapras.

Lv10 gyms are only somehow 'stable' because a lot of people will just not have the time to fight it or dont want to spend 30 minutes on it. Seeing 10 Snorlax will help with that of course but it will also make it a lot harder to prestige so starting a gym with 3 Snorlax isnt the best idea. The beste gyms are usually the ones that occasionally lose 1 or 2 mons that then get replaced again later but for that you need multiple account scum on your team or hope somebody starts attacking it and then stops after one run

At first when I saw the gym being attacked without someone nearby I figured it might be someone who lives in the building but 500m further the same guy was taking over another gym without being physically there so it was obvious.
