The manga has tons of freedom with what they're allowed to do. They have no obligation to follow SM's plot at all. It's been a few chapters into the SM arc, half of the SM characters have been introduced (the newest one today had all of the Tapus and the Kahunas and Kukui) and Lillie still does not exist at the moment. She hasn't even been mentioned, the most "popular" character nowhere to be found.

This implies that the writer will downplay her importance in the arc to a side or recurring character like he's done with a few past characters, diminished in exchange for his personal "vision" of the story, and that Chicken may even take her place in prominence.
