Not really. Remember they balance for VGC where SR is non-existent, and Talonflame had a dominant presence in doubles in addition to Singles. I recall there was an interview with a few GF employees for XY they admitted themselves 3 of them used Talonflame on their competitive teams. I think they mentioned they were surprised at Talonflame being as good/used as it was, but I read that article ages ago so I'm not too clear on the details

Talonflame had one of the most broken abilities ever in gale wings which gave it priority to all its flying moves, mostly brave bird which caused massive damage and always went first even if another pokemon also used a priority move due to talonflame's already super high speed. This made it a threat to kill anything weak to bird or even neutral since it could spam it until it died due to recoil. GF then realized this was bullshit so they made its ability only work when it had full health, rendering the ability garbage.

Flynium Z isn't consumed after using it. The deal with the gems is that when Acrobatics is used then the Flying Gem is consumed and the game assumes that the Pokémon that used Acrobatics doesn't have an item so it abuses of the Flying Gem boost from a 110 BP attack. On Gen V, anything did mostrous damage, even Crobat without using Swords Dance.
