If I inject a pokemon with a Mega Stone that shouldn't be available (e.g. Lopunny, Heracross), how long will it take until the AI starts using showderp-tier counter sets?

I need to take another shot at that 50 winstreak but all these horror stories I'm hearing about it have me worried.

Considering going in with a hail team once I have a Slush Rush Sandslash. Already got a Snow Warning Ninetales. Any recommendations for a third/is this a terrible idea?
>>
>>30895000
Air Balloon Heatran if it's obtainable?
Mega Salamence?
Something to tank fire, steel and ground type moves.
>>
>>30895000
Steel and Fire types will fuck you up.
I suggest Mega Salamence or Garchomp
>>
>>30895000
You're going to get fucked by the AI counterpicking.
A-Ninetales is okay support, but running A-Sandslash with it is going to make almost every single enemy carry fire moves.
>>
I've gotten to 20-30 wins in Super Singles with my M-Gengar, Z-Incineroar, and Flame Orb/Guts Hariyama but I'm almost always getting shut down by Earthquake users.

Any advice Battle Tree dudes? Should I switch out items or replace one of the Pokemon?
>>
>>30895164
Then get an Earthquake absorber.
Normally, I'd say M-Salamence, but you already have a Mega.
How about Celesteela?
>>
>>30895013
>>30895021
>>30895027
So that's an "aye" on it being a terrible idea then, haha.

I do have a 5IV Bagon sitting in my box waiting to be trained so if I fuck up I'll grab a stone for Salamence. Got a Garchomp good to go though so I'll try that. Cheers for the advice, anons!

I'm also considering something with Sturdy just because OHKO hax sounds scary for later stages in the streak.
>>
>>30895177

Ugh, I'd really hate to have to rely on the Tapus or UB's to beat Battle Tree. I've prided myself on never using a legendary to get all the trophies for Battle Maison.

I wonder if it just wouldn't be better to use regular old Gengar with Nasty Plot and an Air Balloon....
>>
>>30895202
>I'd really hate to have to rely on the Tapus and UB's to beat Battle Tree
>Uses Megas
>>
>>30894863
Scarf'd Eruption users are the most predictable, so they have the least likelihood of doing something that'll end a run.
>>
>>30895279
Are you ok anon?
>>
>>30895184

Focus Sash also works, just be mindful of the AI counter-picking again with priority moves and Stealth Rock. Tsareena/Bruxish/Lele can get a free switch on the priority move, so they tend to be good partners for Sturdy/Sash users. A Ghost type can also switch in on Quick Attack or Mach Punch, and Chandelure also has Flash Fire, so that's also an option for a team that fire weak.

Although, I think A-Ninetails does a bit better in Doubles than singles. You can send out both a weather-setter and weather-abuser at the same time, and Aurora Veil has more value when covering multiple mons at the same time. Garchomp is still a pretty decent team-mate, and a flyer as a 4th option should cover the fighting weakness and avoid Garchomp's EQ spam.

Hrm. Well I was looking for an excuse to train a Tsareena so this might be it. Though my Lele is already good to go and will probably help shut down Stall Umbreon Youngster if I run into him again.

Might try Chomp, Tsareena/Lele and a Sturdy/Sash user for singles maybe. Shouldn't be too hard to get a team together. I'll keep Hail abuse in mind for Doubles if I attempt that.

So, after I set my sights on a team I want to use, I should breed for IVs, train for EVs and then try my luck?

Is there any set I should aim for? Like a point/lead pokemon that's good at dealing with everything, a tank/sponge to stop my team from getting murderer and a sweeper to kill their stuff?

I was thinking about something like Bewear or Aegislash for "tank" and Mega Lucario for dealing damage, though I have no idea of what to use as a lead
>>
Finally managed to break 50 on Super single.

The battle against Red was really in my favor though.

Ninetales against Lapras. I use Aurora Veil and he switches out for fucking Mega Venusaur.
Then my Blizzard freezes him. The 2nd time in all those 50 matches that I managed to freeze something.
Then a PHYSICAL Charizard comes in and I switch to M-Salamence. With Intiminate and Aurora Veil I was able to DD trice and roost for full HP, just to be sure.
>>
>>30895890
I use Golisopod as a lead, and he's only failed me maybe two or three times.
Sometimes I use Minior as well, AI is retarded and keeps trying to inflict status while its shields are up.

You have to consider, that you only need to fail once in 50 battles for everything to be over.
Your enemy only has to win once.
I once got hit twice in a row by Guillotine and it probely would have hit a third time if it wasn't for
Mimikyu.

You shouldn't have a move below 90% accuracy either.

My temporary team until I can be bothered catching a good Ditto to breed with.

Silvally @ Darkinium Z
Ability: RKS System
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Return
- Fire Fang
- Crunch
- Parting Shot

Tapu Koko @ Life Orb
Ability: Electric Surge
Level: 50
EVs: 6 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Brave Bird
- U-turn

Tapu Lele @ Expert Belt
Ability: Psychic Surge
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball

It's not bad, when I get enough BP to grab a Scarf and Specs I think I'll consider those on Lele.

My team revolves around scouting with Silvally then Parting Shot/revenge killing with the better suited Tapu.

Very meta

If you go in with your random IV/EV team from the main story, you will get fucked once you get to the super battles.
>>
>>30899176
>So are the horror stories of Battle Tree Teams true?
It's been like this for all the battle facilities in every game. Eventually you're just going to get fucked due to RNG.

>How meta do i have to go to stand a chance?
If you're using random EV/IV pokemon you might be able to beat the normal battles, but once you get to the Super Battles you're most likely going to get immediately fucked.
>>
>>30899176

I know this shit is gonna get worse so when do they start using megas in super singles?
>>
>>30902051
I remember seeing a Mega Camerupt at 25 at earliest. Starting from 31 is the OP Megas like Mega Mawile.

But of course, every 10 games you get matched to a character from story mode who can have a Mega.
>>
>>30902051
They sometimes use them in the 20s but it really picks up in the 30s. 40s is when you see minor legendaries like Zapdos and Heatran

Hey guys

This is my team:
Bewear
Mimikyu
Decidueye
Alolan Muk
Slowbro
Vikavolt

Typical sets.
Which three mons do you recommend I should start a new streak with?

I want to get at least 50

A back-up sweeper that doesn't need to set-up to be a threat. Something that doesn't compound your weaknesses too much (fighting, steel, fire, rock.) Mega Salamence is always a good pick, but then your team is essentially soloed by Tyranitar. Garchomp is a pretty solid choice.
>>

>Try Battle Royale

>YOU CAN ACTUALLY HAVE ALL THREE OPPONENTS GANG UP ON YOUR FULL HEALTH POKEMON
>THEY DO THIS WITH NEUTRAL ATTACKS INSTEAD OF EXPLOITING WEAKNESSES OF OTHER OPPONENTS
>If they aren't doing that it's nothing but two pokemon spam protect whilst the one not spamming protect focuses on you because it knows you aren't spamming protect because it's blatantly cheating AI
>Losing with 5+ kills because somebody who did nothing but spam protect all game was never focused on, by the other enemies, and this game mode ACTUALLY REWARDS PASSIVE PLAY
>If you try passive play it never works because Kingdra is spamming Waterfall flinch on me whilst the two low health fire/ground pokemon jerk each other off

Why is this in the game.

Who would look at this and not feel utterly ashamed it's this fucking awful?
>>
>>30902412
Not true, I encountered Anabel in Sun. Also while I caught Guzzlord I have yet to report back to her, so I doubt that affects it.
>>
>>30903164
Alola-Ninetales is Ice/Fairy, so neutral to fighting.
I feel weird about using Garchomp for some reason, but maybe I'll use discount Garchomp (aka Flygon), or just grab a Krookodile and slap a choice scarf on it.
>>
>>30903291
It's a lot more fun with actual friends than it is playing against the AI

>I feel weird about using Garchomp for some reason
Cause it's strong? Don't play nice with the battle tree. It'll just dick you in the ass.
>>
>>30903291
Battle Royal is an extremely stupid mode in general against the AI. Half the enemies also have Focus Sash in addition to Protect.

So I want to have a laff by using Moody Glalie (with its megastone.) I don't know what else I'll use, but something with T-wave would be nice for the set-up opportunities.

I already got 50 streaks in all categories so I don't care how long I can hold out, I just wanna see how far the most broken ability in the game can carry a mono-ice pokemon. The set would be Protect/Sub/Double Team/Return. What would pair well with this?
>>
>>30903335
It is pretty fun with friends, it's a good mode to fuck around in
>>
>>30899176
Even if the game let you use a full team of 6 legendaries with the best stats and moves possible I'm not sure it'd help that much. Eventually ONE fuck would stonewall you due to the AI's penchant for picking hard-counters.

6IV Ditto w/ Destiny Knot is required to get anywhere with any reliability, even without taking into account Supers.

The only way to guarantee victory is to literally just hack your cart to never have your HP go down ever, and even then you could still run into something that spams Minimize or someshit.

I think the second most frustrating part of the Battle Tree fights is that the AI is so bipolar in its retardation. It either has 100% prediction capabilities and RNG kissing the ground it walks on, or it gets fucked by absolutely everything and kills itself.

83 in Super Multi with Cynthia as my partner. I really wanted that Lansat berry :(

Anyone have any suggestions for my singles team?

Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z
Wild Charge
Dazzling Gleam
Brave Bird
U-Turn

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Dragon Pulse
Sludge Bomb
Thunderbolt
Flamethrower

Krookodile @ Expert Belt
Earthquake
Crunch
Fire Fang
Taunt

Fairly weak to ice types, mainly Weavile and Mamoswine. Thinking of replacing Krookodile, but still having Taunt would be nice. Then I will probably replace Goodra's Flamethrower with Ice Beam.

Currently making a Grassy Terrain team for doubles. I'm not finished with it yet, but here's what it's at so far. I'm planning on leading with Tapu Bulu (that should be obvious) with Toxapex. I have Golisopod waiting in reserves, and I'm missing a fourth. Here's the sets I had in mind:

Tapu Bulu @ ???
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Megahorn
- Superpower
- Zen Headbutt

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Recover
- Haze
- Toxic

Golisopod @ Assault Vest
Ability: Emergency Exit
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- First Impression
- Liquidation / Aqua Jet
- Leech Life
- Poison Jab / Sucker Punch

The plan was that in situations where Toxapex needs to get the fuck out of there, Golisopod can take over, tank shit, and kill things. Should Emergency Exit proc, I can send Toxapex back in with 33.3% more health, or I can send in the fourth Pokemon if I don't think Toxapex can do the job. Thoughts and opinions? The only problem I can see at the moment is that I have two water types on one team, so an electric type weakness is shared.
>>
>>30907831
Just use the Tapus and UBs to beat the Normal single challenge. That will give you 48BP, enough to get the Destiny Knot.
>>
So I'm considering adding a Jolly Kartana as my Sash user on the team mentioned in >>30895463 and I was wondering what the recommended EV spread is on that. 252 in Speed seems like a no brainer, but does it need full investment in attack when the base stat is so high + Beast Boost? Or should I split it between Attack and HP?

>>30901668
27 in Super Singles using a team of Garchomp, Tapu Lele and Weavile. I can't remember what tripped me up.

Haven't really touched Doubles since I don't have a team built around that yet. Did try Multi but lost around match 6 or so because Grimsley makes bad choices.

Playing on an o3DS makes me want to touch the doubles formats less honestly. The slowdown makes it excruciating even with animations turned off. But I can't really justify an n3DS upgrade right now.

If the AI counterpicks it does a pretty shitty job.

>>
>>30909360
Based on what I've observed, it has a threefold pattern. On average, every three rounds it will do something completely retarded, and every three rounds, it will hard counterpick you (or at the very least do its best). The last third round is a toss-up where it just picks shit and plays hard.

>>
I got to round 40 in super singles earlier today, but I got walled hard by colress. My team is sash mimikyu with SD/leech life/play rough/shadow sneak, z-ash greninja with water shuriken/hydro pump/ice beam/dark pulse, and m-garchomp with SD/eq/outrage/stone edge. Any tips for making the whole process any less annoying? I find that mimikyu sometimes just doesn't cut it, and ash-greninja also doesn't hit hard enough unless I have type advantage or use z-hydro pump.
>>
>>30909299
On top of what >>30909674 said, I'll add that Minior doesn't get the effects of Koko's terrain, so he'll die instantly to sleep, which WILL happen.

AI can't account for abilities, so try to exploit that.

Any thoughts on their movesets? I feel like I want to replace Tbolt and dazzling gleam with energy ball and focus blast for mega gengar at least.
>>
I just got to the battle tree and I want to make a doubles team.
I've run it a couple of times now with the team you can see below and I've gotten to 20 wins with it, but I want to do better.

Metagross (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: -
Adamant Nature
- Hammer Arm
- Zen Headbutt
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch

Mimikyu (F) @ Fairium Z
Ability: Disguise
EVs: -
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Wood Hammer
- Shadow Claw

Araquanid (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Bubble
EVs: -
Relaxed Nature
- Liquidation
- Toxic
- Wide Guard
- Leech Life

Krookodile (F) @ Soft Sand
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: -
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Crunch

So far they're not EV trained yet and I haven't gotten any big items (I will get a mega stone for metagross).
I'd like to switch the Krookodile out but I haven't found any replacement for it.
Any suggestions or pointers would help.

How is everyone running their battle tree megamence? Standard physical double STAB, EQ, DD?

Is it me or is her AI pants on head retarded? Do I have to slog through 20 on multi to get new partners, or is it 20 on any mode?
>>
>>30910465
Jolly
252 speed
128 Attack and Special attack
Double Edge/Earthquake/Brick Break/Flamethrower

Literally only have flamethrower in case of ferrothorns and other steel types, Avoid contact shenanigans, .....and not trusting fire fangs 95 accuracy at all.
>>

I think it might be the first really dedicated mixed attacker I've ever used as well. 10/10 would use again
>>
I want the mega stones for kanga and Abolette and I only have the three starters trained up. Can I do it?
>>
So someone posted a doubles build earlier with Primarina/Oranguru/A-Exeggutor/A-Marowak

I had the exact same build in mind, only with Wishiwashi/Oranguru like in that one trailer.

Would the spread fuck me over? Does Oranguru die a lot? Does the AI target it with flinches?
>>
Right now I'm running a mimikyu with normalium Z to use with splash for the attack boost. Would I be better off with a swords dance/red card set? I've seen it used but I'm not clear on what the advantages of red card are
>>
>>30910492
Go beat singles or doubles.
In super, you fight a named character every n0th floor.
>>
>>30910821
Fake Out is common enough where I would use Inner Focus. Telepathy is nice but it's not as good an ability, it's easier to just not use full-spread moves than for TR to fail to go up all the time. And honestly I prefer single target moves, more often than not only one target is actually threatening at any given time and it's better to focus fire that than to risk the damage drop from spread moves to let it live.

If you wanted to use Telepathy, I'd use Tsareena as the grass type (Queenly Majest will protect against Fake Out) and Chandelure as the Fire type and secondary TR setter. You're really missing out on a lot of fire power though so it's probably not as good.
>>
>>30911053
Also Tsareena and Chandelure are a bit fast. Scratch this it sucks.

I'll also say, Primarina>Wishwashi as it can ruin Dark types that threaten Oranguru. I also don't like how Wishi is useless at low health.
>>
what nature do I run on Flygon, Jolly, Adamant, or Naive?

14 in Multis with a friend.
12 in Doubles.
5 in Singles.

Can't seem to find the right team and build momentum. I should probably start actually building metamons and stop using stupid shit like Decidueye, even if it's got a good build.
>>
I'm desperate to use Hydreigon (scarfed), one of my favorite mons, but he's borked until the bank move tutors
Draco and Dark Pulse for sure, but do you think U-Turn, Hyper Voice, Flamethrower and/or Fire Blast are best for my last two?
I'm not sure how prevalent Substitute users are

Also, yes, I'm running smogonbird (metal) to switch in against his counters
>>
>>30912191
The main sub user I've encountered was Scrafty.
Sub, focus punch, bulk up and one more attack

What's your whole team gonna be?
I can't suggest other moves really unless i know what it has to cover.
>>
>>30912191
Fire Blast and Uturn are best.
>>
>>30912256
Hydreigon lead, Skarmory second, and M Pinsir to clean house

I had wanted Earth Power but lol tutor, so that will have to wait
Same goes for fucking Close Combat, leaving me with Superpower on Pinsir
I'm also heavily debating whether I should have Earthquake as my fourth Pinsir move now (obv after Return, QA and CC)

>>30912279
Duly noted.
>>
>>30912313

pretty much what >>30912279 said, but replace fire blast with flamethrower.

Draco, dark pulse, flamethrower, U-turn

Don't go for fire blast because only because you'll miss during an important attack and it'll cost you the run.
>>
I feel like I want to use Bewear as a tank and a Mega Lucario for sweeping as Bewear can tank his bad matchups with Assault Vest

I don't know what do bring as a lead, though. Suggestions?
>>
>>30912459
Both bewear and lucario are weak to fire
Don't do it senpai
>>
>>30912459
You have a double weakness to Fire and Fighting with those.
Maybe Chandelure?
>>
>>30912459
Run him in a rain set
>>
Does hyper offense work? If so what mons would you guys recommend? I have a battle ready Pheromosa, Kartana, Garchomp, Lucario and others. Got a few walls too if hyper offense is shit.

Also why the fuck does this board go to shit at night? Damn.
>>
>>30912503
It works, but you really won't have anything to switch into that can take hits. It's pretty risky.

The usual set is:
two fast offensive mons
one defensive mon that can hp stall the opponents and cover both of the offensive mons main weaknesses
>>
>>30912503
I wouldn't do Pheromosa or Kartana. The problem is that the AI has far, far too many pokemon with berries, sashes, sturdy, confuse ray, static, bright powder, etc. With such squishy mons, ONE fuckup or unexpected flinch or move failure will cost you the match.

I should know, I tried that strategy only for a goddamn Oven Rotom and a Bisharp to fuck me over hard.
>>
>>30912478
>>30912497
Oh fuck I completely forgot about Bewear's fire weakness
That probably rules out Kangaskhan as a sweeper too because of the double fighting weakness
Maybe a Pheromosa sweeper? That leaves my lead open to be a Mega, too
>>
>>30912569
>>30912478
>>30912497
Actually
Having a tank that's weak to fighting and fire doesn't seem too wise, at least not for 3v3
This is hard. I haven't played pokemon since DPP
>>
>>30912546
>>30912559
Aight thanks. If I wanted to bring Toxapex as my wall, what two mons would I want to pair it with?
>>
>>30912569
What about mega salamence? It's strong as fuck and it resists fire and fighting. It compounds the fairy weakness but that's not too hard to cover with a steel type.

Mence/Bewear/Aegislash sounds pretty solid. They're all bulky and dangerous as fuck while covering each other's weaknesses.
>>
>>30912627
That sounds pretty decent, Bulky, too
What are people running on Salamence nowadays? Back in DPP Swords Dance was popular, what's the consensus now? I heard something about Roost sets
>>
>>30912615
I'm using kartana, Toxapex and Scarfchomp, the only thing that ever threatens me is rotom heat, and tangrowth is a bit of a pain to kill

I've heard that megamence was better to use over scarfchomp though.
>>
>>30912659

Also quick note on bewear: its fire weakness is granted through an ability, and since the tree can't even account for immunities granted by an ability (multiple times I have set-up to +6 with Mega Sableye as the opponent spams twave on it,) you're pretty safe choosing bewear.

[something fast and not weak to ground or ice]
Toxapex
Salamence

There's your team.

in my experience, special defense toxapex has been more useful than physical defense toxapex

I hate using Toxapex... It's so boring. Just Bunker, Sludge Bomb, Scald, and Recover. It's useless against steel types.

I lucked out and managed to scout Colress with a Porygon-Z and MegaGross, but I'm not sure what I should use alongside those.
>>
>>30914488
Every time I bring my Toxapex into the tree, I end up stalling vs a rest user that just sleeps away the poison. It's horseshit.

>>30914488
What's the difference stat wise at Lv50 between a Pokémon with -speed and =speed?

I Scouted Cynthia with a Mega Lucario as the first mon, and a shitty paraflynch Togekiss, Lucario is awesome, though. I got to battle 42 with her, I was using Mega Salamence and Arcanine, I lost to a lethal combination of me not looking at the screen, playing badly, and hax.

If you want to advance with Colress, I'd suggest you bring a Tapu Lele to destroy fighting mons and prevent priority, and a Hydreigon, it goes perfectly with Metagross I think.

Just went 20/0 on the first stage of the Tree with

Smeargle (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Moody
EVs: 252 HP 252 SPD 4 DEF
Timid Nature
- Spore
- Baton Pass
- Shell Smash
- Substitute

Salamence (M) @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 ATK 252 SPD 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Roost

Bewear (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Fluffly
EVs: 92 HP 252 ATK 164 SPD
Adamant Nature
- Hammer Arm
- Return
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch

The only floor that gave me a bit of trouble was the 19th where their Wishiwashi woke up in a single turn and knocked out the Substitute I had set up. Moody dropped by accuracy by one level, so I missed two Spores in a row and got KO'd, got bless this RNG. I won by pummeling it with Bewear, then switching to Salamence when a Politoed bounced and sweeped from there

Red was pretty easy. I'm always scared of leads that are faster than Smeargle, but his Fire Fang couldn't even 2HKO me so I just smashed, passed and sweeped with Salamence

I'm assuming the real deal starts now on the super ladder and I've been blogging about beating easy mode, right? Time to either adapt to a better team or try to meme my way through 50 matches in a row
