Salazzle is paper thin and has a core ability that is not conducive to its stats. Crabominable can be fixed if he just gets mach punch and ice shard. I anticipate him and Kommo-o will shoot up in power when move tutors come along in Pokemon Crazy Diamond and Pokemon Steven Universe Pearl come out.

Chaining with a male cute charm mon. If you Masuda, you have to remember that you cut your actual shiny chance by 8 since you have to roll a shiny AND you have to roll an additional 12.5% gender roll for it to be female. With a male cute charm mon, all Salandits will have a 66.6% chance of being female.

Cute Charm chain. You have a much higher chance of the incoming Salandit to be female, plus after the chain goes over 30 (but before 255), you're guaranteed 4 perfect IVs.
Only trouble is that none of the Pokemon who have Cute Charm can learn False Swipe, and they're all Fairy type, meaning Salandit's poison attack is super effective and has a better chance of poisoning.

So here's my tip:
1) Get a male Sylveon. It's very likely to have Cute Charm.
2) Raise the Sylveon to about level 50, so it can last longer in the battle.
3) Get another Pokemon who can learn False Swipe and some other move that can either paralyze or induce sleep.
4) Grow as many Leppa Berries, Pecha Berries, Rawst Berries, and Sitrus Berries as possible. Give Sylveon a Pecha Berry to hold.
5) Max out Sylveon's affection. This makes him more likely to shake off burns and poison without using up a turn.
6) Buy a whole bunch of your standard recovery items and an Adrenaline Orb.
7) Turn off battle animations. They make the whole thing last much longer.

From there, you go to the Volcano Park or Route 8 with Sylveon in the lead, and find a Salandit. Switch to your second Pokemon, use False Swipe, back to Sylveon, drop the Orb. In my personal recommendation, knock out 20 Salandit before getting rid of the first one. Use any moments where calling for help fails to restore health, status, or PP.

Cute Charm is an ability Sylveon has. Outside of battles, if you have the Sylveon at the front of the party, it changes the rate at which Pokemon of the opposite gender spawn. Whatever gender your Pokemon is, the opposite gender will spawn about 66.7% of the time, regardless of the Pokemon's original gender ratio. That effect applies in SOS battles as well.
Meanwhile, Salandit is 87.5% male, 12.5% female. That gender ratio applies to eggs, and as far as I know, there's no way to directly influence what gender your eggs would be. So even if you do manage to hatch a shiny Salandit, it's only 12.5% likely to be female. That's why SOS chaining is a better way to get a shiny Salazzle over breeding; you can directly influence the gender.
So, yes, start raising a male Eevee immediately. Sylveon is pretty easy; have his affection high, make sure he knows a Fairy type move (he learns Baby Doll Eyes fairly early on), and then level him up.

Also I'm not sure how the SOS stuff works as I don't have the game yet. I'm waiting to see if any friends or family gets it for me for the Holiday. I know the pokemon call for help, but how many times do they? Will the ones that were called in call for help too? Someone mentioned that the more you chain the SOS stuff the higher their IVs go, but not past 255? Why is that?

If you do have a Shiny Charm, you should use it. Otherwise it's not 100% necessary. Also, as far as I know, you can't influence nature through SOS.

Most of the Pokemon can call for SOS, but only a few specific ones can't. A Pokemon can call for help as many times as it likes, until it dies. If you knock out the original, the other can call for help too (depending on what the summoned Pokemon is). Sometimes a Pokemon will summon one that can't call for help, or even attacks the one that called. In Salandit's case, it will always end up calling another Salandit, so you don't have to worry. The chain will go on until everything on the field is dead.

Also, the chain counter runs on an 8-bit counter for some reason, and the cutoff is at 255. After that, the counter rounds back to zero. For shinies, you get three extra shiny rolls between 70 and 255. For IVs, when the chain goes past 30 and before 255, you're guaranteed 4 perfect IVs.

There can only be two enemies on the battlefield, so you just kill the one with the most health and leave the weakened one (the less HP it has, the more likely it'll call for help). Save before you start. If you don't get a shiny after 255, soft reset so you don't waste your resources.

It keeps track. That's how it rewards you with better IVs and higher shiny chances after chaining a certain number of enemies.
Also you can do it before the league, as long as you can grow lots of berries and have a place where the Pokemon you want can spawn. Salandit are available on the second island, so just before the story's halfway point.

Another kinda good tip is you may want to switch off every 20 or 30 pokemon, kill your weak one and weaken its reinforcement so it calls the next one instead. I was chaining for hours and an enemy pokemon struggled and killed itself before calling for help. Most pokemon have plenty of PP, but if you're paranoid like I am now it doesn't hurt to switch to a fresh one Pokemon couple times to prevent an unfortunate event like that. It doesn't reset the chain as you don't catch or kill the last mon remaining.

In my experience, Salandit tend to run out of moves somewhere between 20 and 30 kills. Technically, Salandit should be able to endure 75 moves before it runs out of PP based on the four moves it knows, but when they keep failing to spawn new allies, or just don't call after a turn, they eat up their PP quicker. I always take out thew weak one after 20 kills.
