I got to 1700 just using my Karenfag in game team. It really isn't hard once you know what the meta movesets are. Most people don't try to design original teams and as a result are extremely predictable.

Showdown isn't even the official Pokemon competitive format. It's essentially a fan-made format for people who prefer single formats.

VGC on the other hand, is the official format and ultimately one's success in it is the default measurement of skill.
