I just assumed it was thin, lightweight but strong alien steel. And when it comes to sword steel moves, theoretically they wouldnt have to be named anything to do with that stuff. Because this whole thing is a sword, even iron head would have still be a sword move.

It's made of a glass-like substance that hasn't been properly identified, probably because it's from another dimension.
When I first battled it, I used deductive reasoning to figure out its type. Maybe that's a decent enough explanation, it has all of Rock's (and Poison's) weaknesses and resistances so it was given that type.
