I see a thread about the battle tree in some way pretty much everyday, so why not start a general for it?

Share video codes, strategies and tips.

Share glorious victories, or crushing defeats.

Bonus points for having the balls to share videos of your failures.

I've gotten pretty far without using legendaries. Though it didn't make things any easier for myself.

Got screwed by bullshit RNG at round 33

I got up to 100+ with garchomp, mega gyarados, and lele. didn't have to use lele 90% of the time because chomp and gyarados just ripped through everything. no one really gave me any trouble, i just ended up making some bad decisions in my last battle and lost
>>
So I guess I'll run:

Mimikyu
Jolly / 252 ATK / 252 SPE
>Play Rough / Swords Dance / Shadow Sneak /Shadow Claw

Celesteela
Relaxed / 252 HP / 252 DEF
>Heavy Slam / Flamethrower / Earthquake / Leech Seed

What should I run for my third, I need a bulky sweeper with coverage. I was thinking Dragonite but that makes me a little weak to thunder.

Adamant, Life Orb, Max Attack & Speed

Mega-Metagross
Jolly, Mega, Max Attack & Speed

Garchomp
Jolly, Dragonium Z, Max Attack and Speed

Perfect IVs.

Well so far the following have worked for me. keep in mind these are all pred with 5 perfect IVs and hyper training.

Singles:

1st - Primarina w/waterium Z
2nd - Incinaroar w/assualt vest
3rd - Weavile w/ life orb

Doubles:

Same as above, but add in Alolan Ninetails in the leading two alongside Weavile.

Do you want to know moves and abilities too? because I bet from what I told you so far, these teams seem like a pretty bad idea.

Help me, /vp/

I need a Garchomp/M Salamence killer who can also donk fairies
My lead is Scarfed Hydreigon, and because of balance smogon landshark always outspeeds unless it megas, and I can't risk that with a Draco
I obviously have to switch in against fairies too
>>
>>30851710
I've been running M-Metagross and Mimikyu as part of my doubles team, might have to train up a Gible and try this out.

Is M-Salamence really better than M-Metagross? I've been running him on the recommendation of these threads, and I've found that Metagross has much better survivablity, with a minimal reduction of speed/damage

50 super singles streak with Mega Salamence, Toxapex (holding Black Sludge), and Kartana (holding Focus Sash). The Focus Sash never actually activated on Kartana and I was dumb and ran False Swipe on said Kartana, but whatever; about 50% of battles was "set up with Megamence and sweep" and another 40% were Megamence sweeps + Toxapex toxic stall.

Even with the opponents using Megas and Z-moves, I STILL felt like I was cheating.
>>
>>30852171

IVs: 0 Spe
- Shadow Sneak
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
- King's Shield

I want to make a good battle tree video public, but the game literally won't let me.

"This battle video can not be made public"

What the fuck? I know my team was 100% legit, so was the NPC's team doing something illegal?

>>Any tips for a fast sweeper like Alakazam? Focus Miss in Battle Tree is painful.

yes, replace it with M-Lucario or something
>>
>>30852273
Salamence @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Return
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance

This is what I used to get to 50 wins. Some people prefer double edge over return, but return worked fine for me.
>>
>>30852273
The optimal build is Jolly with an EV spread of 248 Speed, 252 ATK, 4 DEF, and 4 SpDEF: moveset of Substitute, Roost, Dragon Dance, and Return (Substitute to keep status moves and OHKO attacks at bay, Roost to heal off damage, Dragon Dance to set-up, and Return to sweep).

Mine was Adamant with 252 ATK, 188 Speed, and 80 HP though with EQ, Return, Roost, and DD because I am a Smogonite.
>>
>>30851623
>>30851834

Oranguru/Primarina/Exeguttor-A/Marowak-A
>>
>>30852376
why even use dragon claw
>>
>CM Mega Sableye (252/252+ Bold)
>Toxapex (also 252/252+ Bold)

Good third for this singles team? Something specially defensive that's not weak to fairy and resists ground, preferably.

Mega Gyarados is really sick in general. The catch is that really has good abilities before and after mega.

>>
>>30852073
>The AI literally cannot comprehend how to deal with Disguise/Red Card combo
It kept sending mold-breaker z-moves after me
>>
>>30852674
your other best bet will probably be tapu bulu, it has reasonable bulk and can restore its hp with its terrain and with horn leech. Porygon2 and Chansey are quite bulky but they don't resist ground. Togekiss is decent but it's also weak to electric
>>
>>30852755

Reminds me how the AI doesn't know how to deal with Magic Bounce ability.

It just keeps trying to use a status move and gets reflected back for a hilarious loop.

Free Sword's Dance x3 then sweep.
>>
>>30852434
What sets are you using? I've been trying something similar with Oranguru, Alola Marowak, Dhelmise, and Azumarill.
>>
Oranguru @ Lum Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 2 Spe

- Instruct

Oranguru has 2 speed IVs because I want it to move immediately after Primarina in Trick Room; it can also be 3, you end up with the same speed.

Primarina @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Scald
- Moonblast

Singles Battle Tree uber tier:

Mega Salamence
Kartana - Focus Sash
Xurkitree - Choice Scarf
Pyukumuku - Leftovers
Aegislash - Leftovers
Porygon-Z/2 - Normalium Z

Good tier:

A-Ninetales
Mimikyu
Mega Scizor
A-Marowak

Anyone else have mons that never fail them in the battle tree? Post stories.
>>
>>30852384
Return to sweep? Why of all things?
>>
>>30852132
Salamence, Lucario, and Sableye imo
>>
>>30853045
Aerilate
>>
>Golisopod w/ Red Card
>Z-Splash Mimikyu
>Life Orb TR sweeper Reuniclus

All Max HP, Max Offences.

Currently unbeaten, though i've had some nasty run-ins with fairies, skarmories, gyarados, the standard "bulky fuckers with no resistances that stack buffs". RNG has also been uncharacteristically merciful.

Golisopod is pretty fun for setting up chip damage on people, letting me scout their team and then either of my two other sweepers (which either tank high burst or they ignore walls) can usually get finishing blows. His neutral damage is a bit disappointing, but he disrupts ALOT of the generic "string three annoying moves together" things that Battle Tree pokemon do. He's also surprisingly tanky.

It's basically just tankiness, strong abilities, priority moves with Trick Room as a panic button. Fragile, high speed sweepers just die to other priority or quick claw memes, so taking hits is very good, and stuff like Magic Guard/Disguise/Red Card are the best way to cockblock the AI.

Eventually RNG will end any run but if the computer is forced to HAX you out, it's as good as admitting it can't beat you.
>>
>>30853088
What's your Golisopod moveset? Mines got First Impression, Liquidation, Leech Life, and Aqua Jet. I run assault vest.
>>
>>30851830
What did you use on Persian?
>>
Mimikyu
Garchomp
Topu Keko
62 battles
>>
>>30853157
Heathcliff (Persian-Alola) @ Flame Orb
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 228 HP / 28 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Switcheroo
- Taunt
- Foul Play
- Parting Shot

Flame Orb is generally the more crippling item when it works, but later on I found a lot more Z-Move users, Mega Evolutions and Fire-types on whom it didn't work. If you're against one of those then your first move should be Parting Shot. That way you can come back in later if one of your other mons is dead and cripple something else with Flame Orb instead.

Choice Scarf is also usable. Darkium Z can be used to turn Parting Shot into a psuedo Healing Wish. If that is the case, then you should use Toxic, Roar or Snarl instead of Switcheroo.

EVs let you survive a hit from Red's M-Char X after a DD and hit it back with Foul Play

how are you liking z-splash? hadn't heard that combo before. have you tried any others hold items?

i've tried life orb/sash but using fairium-Z carried me to 67 once, and currently at 61 on my second attempt, i want to know how much you like splash, since there's plenty of breaks IMO to SD one more time
>>
>>30853142

Golisopod (Leads)
Adamant
Max HP, Max Attack
Item: Red Card

First Impression
Sucker Punch
Liquidation
Leech Life

It's basically the same concept, I would have run Aqua Jet too then realised too late into breeding it was an egg move. Sucker Punch actually serves pretty well though, synergises very nicely with his ability. In retrospect Aqua Jet really isn't that useful as you'll never score a 2hko with it unless you're doing Life Orb memes, it's more of a move for Boosters.

I might replace Leech Life though, it's pretty redundant and I could easily stick some better coverage there, or something like Taunt to combine with Sucker Punch or Taunt -> force an Exit -> set up with Mimikyu and they are forced to crack his disguise instead of meming me with status effects. AI doesn't deal with taunt and both these pokemon exploit the fuck out of it.

Red Card was just a last minute decision until I get enough BP for something better but it's an amazing way to force out annoying things, reset shit matchups (i.e. Red Card and Exit triggers same turn), you see more of your opponents team and it means your sweepers just clean house most of the time.

Was sort of a slapdash team but all three members synergise absurdly well.

>>
>>30853306

I think Swords Dance is much better for 6v6 as it's way more flexible and there are way more walls around, as well as the fact you aren't playing against cheating scum.

The reason I like Z-Splash for Battle Spot is it's basically the most efficient possible use of your free turn of Disguise, and you only have to burn through 2-3 opponents which means you're way less likely to be countered. Very few pokemon seem to actually survive more than two turns from a Z-Splash Shadow Sneak anyway, at that point the difference between +3/+4 stops mattering. This might change as I climb higher, but then I have stronger Play Roughs, a Leech Life that heals more, etc.

It's basically just "move economy" - the thing with Battle Spot is the more turns you take to do ANYTHING, the more opportunities the AI is getting to screw you over. Just a single turn of preparation is already running massive risks, so I prefer to make them count.
>>
>>30853739
>The reason I like Z-Splash for Battle Spot is it's basically the most efficient possible use of your free turn of Disguise

except for the part where SD + LO gives you 2.6x your attack power whereas Z-Splash only puts you at 2.5x

That spread is from smogon, and is optimized for level 100
At level 50 there's a tiny chance you might die to a +1 blitz

+1 252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 228 HP / 28 Def Fur Coat Persian-Alola: 144-169 (85.2 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

instead you can run 212 hp/44 def

+1 252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 212 HP / 44 Def Fur Coat Persian-Alola: 139-165 (83.2 - 98.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

How good are Mega Absol/Lucario in the tree? I hear Salamence and Gyarados put in work, and Metagross is alright, but I'm looking to change up my team with something a bit different.
>>
>>30855012

Battle tree's AI will realize your Mega Absol has magic bounce by the second battle so it will just stop using status effects on you. Mega Lucario should work alright until battle tree sends out a scarfed fire poke which will use a 140% accuracy fire blast on it while holding quick claw
>>
>>30855012

Mega Absol's Magic Bounce turns alot of the battle tree's bullshit right back on it.

Downside is that it's still a glass canon, even if 6 IV perfect. If you don't make smart moves, you're done.

Minior is risky because entry hazards shit on him if he isn't first, and priority moves quickly put him out after sash or sub 50% hp.

Special mega luke is indeed bretty gud, I used one with Aura Sphere (better than Focus Miss memes fucking you over in a format such as the Battle Tree, Aura Sphere is strong enough with adaptability and Nasty Plot factored in to oneshot most mons with a boost), Flash Cannon, Psychic and Nasty Plot. Instead of Psychic, Extremespeed can be considered if you want non bred priority (RIP Vacuum Wave. It needs Pokebank anyway). For Doubles, swap Nasty Plot with Protect.

I'm not sure about using Dark Pulse as with Adaptability, even a super effective Dark Pulse only does as much as a neutral Aura Sphere/Flash Cannon, 160 bp. It might be useful for mons that are weak to dark and resist your stabs such as Metagross though. Still very niche.

What's a good replacement for the Whimsicott in my battle tree team?
Currently running M Slowbro, Porygon2, and the Whimsicott. I normally use it for Encore-ing enemy boosts/weather/etc. but once you start running into veteran trainers with 3 legendary teams they don't bother with any setup moves and it feels like a wasted team slot.
This team is also incredibly slow to climb so something more fast paced would be nice.

>>
>>30862097
I used Weakness Policy Aegislash+MMence, but alternated the lead pokemon sometimes to keep the AI guessing for what that was worth. Sometimes I'd add SD Mimikyu, others CB Pangoro (No Superpower kinda blows, but its not bad), and Bulky DD Gyarados/ Sash Pheromosa yet to get a kartana from GTS trades here and there.

I got bopped while Pangoro was there. If I had kept Gyarados I could have won that easily, but after a close call with Jolteon a few matches prior, I didn't want to chance it again so soon.
>>
>>30861602
I doubt there will ever be a best team. Only some mons that do well in most team combos, like Tapu-Lele or Garchomp.

Basically you just want as much coverage as possible. You're best off picking two bulky mons that are safe to swap to in case you can't just buff up and sweep with Mimikyu.

Just be sure you have at least one ground immunity because you can see an earthquake or fissure coming a mile away.

You've got options.

A Mega is always welcomed. MegaGyara MegaMence and MegaLuca do well enough. MegaGross does well enough, but isn't really able to boost like the others to clean as well.

Those aside, SD+LO Garchomp and the like can blow shit up with their raw speed and power. Gets even easier if you know which Pokemon are likely to try Thunder Waving your team to switch in and setup.

Aegislash offers some really good defense to offense play with its abilities, and its steel typing will be a godsend against fairies if you need an option vs them. I got quite a bit of mileage out of Weakness Policy with it, just because of how tanky Shield Forme is.

Celesteela can put in quite a bit of work both defensively and offensively, and can be tailored to work well easily.

UBs like Pheromosa and Kartana deal disgusting amounts of damage, but they're frail as well as vulnerable to status inducers. Best to lead with them if anything else.

There isn't a lot of mention of her, but max speed+HP taunt Tapu Fini shuts down a ton of setup shitters there too, and supports with Misty Terrain if you're afraid of status like the plague. All while packing Nature's Madness, calm mind, and other tricks on top of good bulk to tank, setup and weaken / bring down stuff

There's other niche stuff like Magic Bouncers to mess with. Really, there's a lot you can try.

Battle 48, one hell of an emotional rollercoaster

F2CW-WWWW-WWW3-5WZE

tl;dr summary for people who can't watch:
>Tornadus gets a free sub on a Toxic. Uses Double Team, evades a scald that prob would have broke his sub. Lands a hurricane which confuses. Lands another hurricane, after which Toxapex kills itself. Lands a critical Focus Blast and then lands another four consecutive Focus Blasts. Evades two ice beams, finally misses a Hurricane and then gets hit by Ice Beam, but then lands a Hurricane confusion the next turn, and then P2 hits itself twice, and gets finished off by one more Hurricane. Sableye gets a couple free Calm Minds, gets confused but never hits itself. Tornadus finally runs out of PP and switches out. Other two opponents are Latias and Azelf who do fuck all and die in one hit. Tornadus comes back in and fucks around for a couple turns before dying like a bitch.

Let's be clear: he hit seven 70% accurate accurate move in a row. That alone has a 8% chance of happening (it has Yache berry, I looked it up,) but on top of that he got a crit and a confusion, and when he finally missed once, he got another confusion, two it-hit-itselfs, and then a hurricane hit after that

That feel when the tree blatantly cheats but you make it through anyway.
>>
>>30862745
First advice is don't stack weaknesses like that. Replace tox with Skarm or Celesteela.
>>
>>30862745
You have a significant Ground weakness on your team because of Marowak and Toxapex, bro.

Try subbing something for a Pokemon with Levitate or a Flying type. If not Skarm/Celesteela, I'd probably say replace Toxapex with Gyarados if Marowak's got Lightning Rod and be wary of Rock Slide/Stone Edgers.

At least if you fear that, you can opt to Mega Evolve and remove the flying type if necessary.
