I think the problem a lot of people have isn't the fact that Charizard got 2 megas, but the fact that there was an entire anime spin-off to show off Charizard X, as well as the Charizard X fellating that went on in the XY anime. It is kind of fucked up though that it was the only kanto starter that got 2 megas, while the others got shafted.

The real Lightning of the series is Lucario. Came in late, attracted awful people to the series, and constantly gets wanked off by its creators for seemingly no fucking reason. If you consider that pandering, Gen III should be a lot more shit then.
Only Gen III legendaries, barring Diancie and Mewtwo, got Megas. Kyogre and Groudon got the ability to be the second Mega on your team. And Fug can Mega Evolve without stone. This should all be considered Gen III pandering.
Not mention Greninja. The frog got a second Hidden Ability that allows it to Mega Evolve, and be the third Mega on your team. Gets a unique move, which is a 75 BP priority move. When it mega evolves. Memefrog, along with Fug, are the only Pokemon that can Mega Evolve and also use Z-moves.
This is more pandering than getting 2 Megas. 2 Megas aren't something special. A lot of Pokemon got a Mega, Zard just got two. Shouldn't be a big deal.

They recognized both Blastoise and Venusaur fans too, and gave them both a Mega form. Blastoise is more popular compared to Venusaur, so it also gets animated more, with Generations and Origins.
Compare that to Johto, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos starters. Instead of being jealous Charizard, I would just be happy my favorite isn't being treated like the rest of the starters.
