Just 3 games in and in the same system and they already seem like they are aging bad and do many mons no justice. The gen 6 and especially 7 models look pretty polished and full of life. Thoughts?

They're already high-res. Too high-res for the 3DS to handle.

They've got models that are higher quality than the ones used in Wii games on the 3DS, which is about on par with the Wii's predecessor, the Gamecube, in terms of power.

That's why the framerate drops when there are multiple models on screen.

The models are fine, it's being displayed on a 240p screen that makes them look shit. If you've seen them extracted from the game in videos they actually look good since they've made them so high poly they won't have to redo them for decades. That's why the game lags on 3DS so badly. Gen 8 on Switch will use the same models but it'll look far better being on a 720p display. The animations could be better though, they seem lazy a lot of the time but those aren't as difficult to do as whole new models when you're dealing with like 10,000 polys.

the way I see it, if you're not in the alola dex you're a bonus pokemon. Not worth the effort of needing a massive update if only a few players will even bother to use them.

Gen v was the tops as far as that goes. It was still good ol' 2d pixel love, but without being static images. I wish they'd have kept that going at least one more gen.
