I've been wanting to get a Multiscale Dragonite for years, so I finally chained for one tonight. This is the moveset I'm thinking of using for VGC, but I can't decide between Roost and Aqua Tail. On one hand, Roost let's me get Multiscale back up. On the other, Aqua Tail works better against Marowak, Arcanine, and Mudbray (among others). EVs let it outspeed max speed investment base 130 after one DD (though I'm considering switching them to SpD because of Ice Beam and Dazzling Gleam).

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
Level: 50
EVs: 68 HP / 252 Atk / 188 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Roost / Aqua Tail
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Punch
>>
what do after you finish EV training? Do I just level them to 100 for hyper training?
>>
>>30833120
Either that, or breed more mons. You can also test out other formats.

Otherwise, get on battle spot or teh internet and get some battles in.

What do you guys usually use to take down stallers? My friends just wreck me with mons like Toxapex and I always seem to have trouble if I don't kill Rest / Stockpiles tanks in the very first turn on BT. Do people focus on nuking the shit out of them from the start or is there something I'm missing?
>>
>>30838290
You just need to outspeed it with Psychic types or Ground types, or have coverage moves of either said types
>>
>tfw just don't understand competitive Pokémon
I mean I kind of grasp IVs and stuff but I just don't understand what my stats should look like per Pokémon. I can't differentiate between special and non special attack. It just seems so confusing. I've read so many guides but I just think competitive Pokémon isn't for me.
>>
>>30838290

part of handling stall is knowing when to go for the throat and when to just sit back and let them be annoying. Stalling usually leads to predictable patterns, simply observe what moves they make and figure out the turn they are most susceptible. That's when you strike.

What you have to do is either hit their wall at a point where it's caught switching in/recovering really hard with a surprise move and hope it crits or use the opportunity to set up a sweeper.

in the summary page of a pokemon, you can check its moveset, and literally there are markers where you can determine whether a move is Physical (non-special) or Special.

see pic related: the first marker denotes that the move is a physical attack.

the second marker denotes that its a special attack.

the third one means that it's a status inducing move
>>
>>30836958
>How viable in competitive is Flail?
Nonviable. Completely. Reversal is a better move. Hell, Liechi Endure Unburden Hitmonlee is a fun late game pokemon to play with
>>
>>30838330
Psychic is a coverage I'm missing, yeah. I was more using Toxapex as an exemple, though.

>>30838429
Just wait it out and try to bait recovers / switch-in as I use the occasion to set-up, huh? Alright, I'll think about this a bit, thanks.
>>
>>30838502
Aren't they pretty similar though? Why is reversal better?
>>
Is it 4v4 out of 6, VGC rules + Special and Greninja?

I've been using this mimikyu to some success

the set is specifically made to outspeed tanky garchomp, but also survive offensive garchomp's EQ, and be able to either 2HKO tanky chomp (outspeeding it on the second turn) or OHKO offensive garchomp

it also OHKOs offensive celesteela at +2 with never ending nightmare, so it can take a heavy slam with disguise and then simply get rid of it

Mimikyu
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Shadow Claw
- Play Rough
>>
>>30838564
Reversal is better because fighting is a much better offensive type. Both moves are situational, but Reversal has less resistances, and pokemon that can use Reversal effectively are often a lot, LOT stronger for it.
>>
Is 252 HP/252 Attack Adamant Buzzwole with Assault Vest the best option? His speed is kind of lame so I feel that it's a waste of investment. I've been running Hammer Arm, Leech Life, EQ, and Poison Jab.
>>
>>30833112
Adamant is better for DD but Jolly is fine.

Neither go Earthquake you need it.
>>
>>30838290
Toxic shuts down most stallers.

However I find using taunt on toxapex then setting up can really fuck him, but you need to be careful with burns and tanking special attacks from scald.
>>
>>30838354
Play randoms on Pokemon Showdown until you've had enough fun.

It's not really hard so you must be really young or something. Basically just focus on stats that the pokemon specializes in with it's moveset and base stats.
>>
>>30838290
You need a "wallbreaker" pokemon. Taunt + a recovery move yourself or Taunt + BEWST
>>
>>30838738
>really young

>>
>>30838632
Looks pretty calculated, I usually just went 252atk/252 speed.
>>

Here's the actual calculations

>Bulky chomp
252+ Atk Mimikyu Play Rough vs. 240 HP / 176+ Def Garchomp: 200-236 (47.9 - 56.5%) -- 84.4% chance to 2HKO
(Mimikyu is at 264 speed, Garchomp at 263)

>Offensive chomp
252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 112 HP / 0 Def Mimikyu: 196-232 (70.2 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252+ Atk Mimikyu Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Garchomp: 522-614 (146.2 - 171.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

>Offensive celesteela
+2 252+ Atk Mimikyu Never-Ending Nightmare vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Celesteela: 381-448 (113.7 - 133.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

>Scarf or Specs Tapu lele
252+ Atk Mimikyu Shadow Claw vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 248-294 (88.2 - 104.6%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
>>
>>30838662
He kind of sucks and isn't viable competitively.

Having such a low special defence and speed really fucks him over.

You can go Adamant with 252 HP and attack and just avoid special attackers if that's your choice.

You can go Jolly and kill whatever it outspeed.

Your final option is Careful/ 252HP/ 252 Sp Def. to try to cover his big weakness but it's not very effective.
>>
>>30838785
Is the Offensive chomp Jolly/ Max speed?

I'm also assuming there's no way he outspeed Lele but he can 2hko it with SS?
>>
>>30838632
I'm curious now, is there a limit on the EV reducing berries? Like, what happens if the happiness is maxed out before a stat's EVs are 0? Thinking of switching my Mimikyu to have this spread.
>>
>>30838961
no limit/ people just use the berries on stats they dont ev train

I would like to make a VGC doubles team that utilizes Explosion. I imagine having a couple pokemon on the team with this move. Is this viable at all? I know explosion Heatran was popular i n 2015, but I do not know if that is unique to Heatran, or if for some reason explosion would be less effective in the current metagame.
>>
>>30833112
I'd replace aqua tail with waterfall. You take slight decrease in power, but you get no chance to miss and a chance to flinch.
>>
>>30839024
golem with galvanize switch into a koko or xurkitree stealth rock -> whatever -> explode
>>

>>30838852
Yeah, that's assuming it's jolly chomp, jolly life orb has a 50% chance to OHKO that mimi, but that's about as rare as an adamant chomp

You can't SS lele since psychic terrain blocks priority moves, specs lele shadow ball has a 37% chance to OHKO, and lele will always outspeed

Lele is one of mimikyu's harder matchups, but if you have disguise up, an unboosted shadow claw puts it down into range where a revenge killer can pick it up, and is a guaranteed OHKO if lele switches into stealth rocks

+2 shadow claw blows lele up if you know it's scarf+modest, or you think you can survive the specs shadow ball

calcs
>Lele switching into stealth rocks
252+ Atk Mimikyu Shadow Claw vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 248-294 (88.2 - 104.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

>Scarf+modest lele
252+ Atk Mimikyu Never-Ending Nightmare vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 494-584 (175.8 - 207.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Disguise would take it's first shadow ball, and then lele's second shadow ball would only do

252+ SpA Tapu Lele Shadow Ball vs. 112 HP / 0 SpD Mimikyu: 184-218 (65.9 - 78.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The bigger threat is specs + timid lele, which has a chance to OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Shadow Ball vs. 112 HP / 0 SpD Mimikyu: 250-296 (89.6 - 106%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

of course, if you have disguise to hide behind, never ending nightmare will always OHKO lele if you don't want to bet on it's item

252+ Atk Mimikyu Never-Ending Nightmare vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 494-584 (175.8 - 207.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

>>30838961
There shouldn't be a limit, I like to use pelago to get specific spreads using the exact amount of play sessions

the maxed out EV training island gives 4 EVs per play session

The drawback is that it takes forever
>>
So how hard is the battle tree?
Do I need to use only the best mons? Or would I be okay if I use some of my favorites. With the right EVs and move of course.
>>
Best nature for Solgaleo? Jolly or adamant?
>>
>>30839124
I use pelago too, I like it since it lets my mon EV train while I work on other things.
>>
>>30839170
Both.
>>
Can you use greninja's battle bond and a mega evo in the same battle?
>>
Anyone got some Primarina suggestions? I started out Rowlet, but I've come to enjoy Hatseal Miku.
>>
>>30839170
The best nature is none because Solgaleo is trash, but if you're dying to use it, Adamant.
>>
>>30839140
Battle Tree isn't hard until the higher chains, but the place is infested with hax. You will find that for some reason, moves with sub-100 accuracy will miss more often. If you're confused or paralyzed, you cannot move 30% 100% of the time. Quick Claw on opponent's pokemon has a 50% chance of activating. Minimize once and good luck on you hitting it. Secondary effects will activate more often against you.
You can use your favorites if you want, but keep in mind the Battle Tree memes, because they are real.
>>
>>30839140
It's bullshit because of the unfair RNG.
Fissure will hit more often than not, quick claw will always go first, and worse of all NPC's pokemon will always be the ones that directly counter all 3 of your pokemon.

If you have no answers for water/ toxic stalling they'll do it.
>>
>>30839170
Honestly Anon, Solgaleo is one of the worst fucking ubers ever.

Is it even going to stay in ubers?
>>
>>30839513
Not him, but why is Solgaleo so bad?

Is Lunala better?
>>
>>30838801
Bah. I really wanted to use Gainsquito. I'll still throw him around a bit, I like being able to recover so much. I've considered running him with a curse passer since speed doesn't seem to matter much, but that SpD is just worrisome.
>>
>>30839538
just look at it's state, typing, ability, and moves and then compare that shit to any other common Uber.

Lunala has a decent ability to help it but not much.
>>
>>30839140
The best advice I can give is to never carry a move with less than 100% accuracy
>>
>>30839513
Solgaleo's stats are too good to ever drop down to OU. It's most popular set, Z-Splash, will destroy OU except for the very few mons that can counter 3 of its 5 viable attacks. It's move pool is complete ass though. Really needs move tutor to buff it up.
It's like how blaziken is too strong for OU but complete ass in Ubers.
>>30839538
Lunala's ability, good bulk, and access to roost allows it to tank hits from even supereffective attacks. And unlike Solgaleo, Lunala actually has a good move pool with wide coverage.
>>
Is it even fucking possible to get a HA Grimer from Hauoli City? I've been SOS chaining these piles of shit for the past 4 HOURS and I haven't seen ONE with the ability
>>
When they update pokebank and I transfer my Breeloom with Technician over, will it update itself so that base 60 moves benefit from technician, or would I have to remake my Breeloom over again in Alola for that to happen?

>>

Yeh I don't know what I wanna use to replace him. Maybe Top Lel but then I'm loaded with fairies.
>>
>>30839862
Magearna. Amazing bulk and resistances coupled with special Moxie and fairy dracometeor makes it pretty amazing for Trick Room.
I'm also assuming this is a Trick Room team due to all the slow mons and 3 viable mons that can use Trick Room

>>
>>30840279
you don't lol
>>
>>30840043
It can't learn nasty plot.
>>30840189
Basically Hypnosis + Shadow Tag prevents switching out so opponent is stuck in with a dead mon. Chance for hypnosis to not hit in 2 turns is effectively less than 20%. Hex effectively has 130BP which deals around half to even bulky mons. Poison STAB take care of any normal mons (which is really just EK arceus) and Destiny Bond guarantees a second free kill. It's limiting any option that the opponent has and unhealthy for Uber.
However, it's also very gimmicky since you are relying on Hypnosis.
>>30840279
Any sufficiently fast and strong mon (with Scarf) or priority Suckerpunch (this may not work if opponent predicts correctly). Usually, M-gengar means you have to sag at least 2 to take down 1.
>>
Good item for Xurkitree? I've been running with Expert Belt since he has such good coverage.

Also I assume Tail Glow is far too risky to bother using right? I can't imagine a pokemon that frail and with such mediocre speed forcing many switches unless it's tanky shit.

Change sitrus to Figy berry. Also, what's with that EV spread on Azumarill?
U-Turn is a waste on Mandibuzz. Whirlwind or Tailwind offers better support.
On scizor, better off with Bug Bite than Brutal swing unless you're trying to hit steel types or if this if pre-pokebank. They cover the same typings except for ghost but BB gets STAB.

Bonus points for that Arcanine. I run the exact same set and nicknamed it "Type-Null".

I see that Torkoal really dropped off in usage. As far as I see it, the full-team investment into trick room has proven to be less competitive than we originally thought.

However, is there any room for Torkoal on a semi-TR or non-TR team? Sun Eruption is still a strong attack and I feel like it has potential as a late game clean up.

This might be a dumb question, but what's the best way to level up a Pokemon quickly? I have a few Pokemon that I need to level up quite a bit before they learn the moves I want. I've just been fighting the high-level wild Pokemon on Poni, but is there a better way to gain levels?

Also, speaking of levels: if a Pokemon is under level 50 when it enters an online battle, will it be set to level 50, or does that only apply to Pokemon already at or over level 50?

Put Light Clay on A-Ninetales and Life Orb on A-Sandslash. You could replace Dragon Claw on Salamence with a better coverage move or Roost, the evs on Toxapex make no sense so I'm assuming it's a typo.
That Mimikyu set is garbage: it needs more speed and Shadow Sneak.
Overall it's not a bad team, but you are a bit too weak to Mega Metagross

I'd put Shadow Sneak over Facade, so you can keep Shadow Claw for the Z-move

Hey guys I'm looking for some advice/feedback on my planned Pokebank OU team. Pic related is what I have so far. Mainly looking for a special wall and if I was open to changing any of those 5 Pokemon it would be Azumarill or Ferrothorn.

Only megagross, should probably go Jolly to maximize the speed & outspeed sub 110 mons. Hammer Arm is redundant and only really hit other steel types. Better off with Ice Punch for coverage unless you really want to hit that Heatran.
Only Azumarill, Splash plate only add 1.2 multiplier on waterfall and Aqua Jet. Choice Band offers much more power and AV offers better longevity. Even LO give more power to your coverage.
Also, with that cloyster, It's lacking EVs and nature. And you'll have to find a stall or resist mon to set up on. No water move also hurts.
7.8/10 too much water
>>
So.

>Get rid of Azumarill.

>Don't run mixed Greninja. Go full Special.
>I would also consider dropping Cloyster, since it serves no purpose in your team synergy. You already have Ferrothorn and Greninja weak to Fighting. You have Metagross as a Phys. Attacker. You need a Special Wall, Lead, and something else to balance your weaknesses. If you're deadset on using Cloyster, use it as a Spikes Lead + Explosion.
>You also have a fairly large ground weakness.

>Get rid of Azumarill.
Any replacement suggestions?

>Plates should never be used on Pokemon that aren't Arceus.
I thought plates were preferred, is there a specific reason not to?

>Don't run mixed Greninja. Go full Special.
Will do.

>I would also consider dropping Cloyster
I wanted Cloyster for the multi-hitting power, any similar Pokemon to replace it?

>You need a Special Wall, Lead
Any suggestions or a list of common pokemon that fill those roles?

>You also have a fairly large ground weakness.
When you say weakness do you mean nothing to resist it? Cause Metagross is the only one naturally weak to ground.
>>
>>30844512
Not the same anon as >>30844424 but try chansey or togekiss as special walls. The steel and water heavy presence really limits the options you can use as special wall.
Lead-chomp or lando-T could help with the electric weakness, but I prefer Marowak-A (with Lightning Rod) for grass, water, fire core (though honestly, running Mantine as part of the core is better since it's a special tank and can run haze, defog for support but the team is water heavy unless you take both azu and cloy out).
Again, plate 1.2 multiplier on only 1 type is not worth the item slot. refer to >>30844381
for explaination as to why
>>
Hydreigon and Mega Pinsir are probably my favorite mons right now and I want to run an online singles trio with them, but I can't decide on a good second

Wanted a Pelipper/Ash-Ninja Core.

Gave it Lando for Rocks + physical setup mons + Knock Off + EQ for Topu Keko/Xurkitree, added a Mega Meta since he checks so many things and with Rain his most common weakness is nullified, added a Scarfed Genesect since he could scout and again might survive shit due to rain

So it's Lefties Pelipper (Who does surprisingly well against walls), Specs Ash-Ninja, Lando-T, Mega Meta and Scarfed Genesect. What would be a decent final mon? Since AG outspeeds so many things, could a Tapu Lele work? She's formidable on her own and helps against bulky waters with Specs Tbolt.

I've been trying to figure out how to train my Bewear. I was planning to max out its Attack and HP EVs, but I've seen multiple people suggest a very specific EV spread involving 164 speed EVs in order to "outspeed uninvested base 80 Pokemon".
I'm not very knowledgeable about speed tiers, but are "uninvested base 80 Pokemon" really common enough to require such an EV spread? I feel like it'd be better to dump it all into Attack and HP instead of putting a very precise amount into Speed just to counter a specific speed tier of Pokemon. Would that be a good idea or not?
>>
So, lemme drop an idea here, if this thread is still alive.

I've been playing around with the idea of a Speed Swap Pheromasa for VGC. Problem is, I dont know what exactly would pair well with it as it really feels like it needs a Sash just to function. (Which other things could possibly use better.)

It really depends on how you plan on using Bewear on your team. Max HP is fine if you're just aiming to tank a multitude of hits.
Now, look up Pokemon who have a base Spe of 80. Would you rather sacrifice bulk to outspeed and KO those Pokemon?
And yes, depending on the Pokemon, it's pretty common to not invest in Spe if its <100, especially if it has more desirable stats.

The Rental Team feature lets you try out teams and strategies that would ordinarily take a long time to put together. Or maybe you want to help a friend battle against a variety of teams. Rental Teams make it easy to train and prepare like never before! But when it comes time for a real competition, you'll have to put together your own team—Rental Teams won't be allowed in formal tournaments. Look forward to Rental Teams coming to the Pokémon Global Link early next year.
