Not that guy, but I'm pretty sure the design brief for the first gen (when creating the franchise) was to encourage people to play together and be social (there's a DYKG vid on it probs). The whole game is based around collecting and swapping creatures with other players, arguably it wouldn't work or be as popular if there was only one version. There's actually two versions because of the psychological effect it has on families or more specifically moms/dads. Say you want to play pokemon with your son/daughter. If it were any other game you'd feel like you were wasting your money since you'd feel like youre buying two of the same game as you would with CoD. Autists aren't exactly the largest demographic for these games and claiming that a handful of neckbeards could boost sales by any significant metric is laughable at best.

I was skeptical of this gen for quite a few reasons but sweet jesus this game is fun.

I figured ultra beasts would be fucked up digimon replacements/evolutions but nope they are actually a pretty fun concept.

Was skeptical at the lack of gyms too but the trials were actually pretty interesting. I hope they take more risks with different concepts in the future and see what works
