my first few shinies, hypno, cottonee, rockruff, fomantis, and yungoos, all came within the first 40-50 encounters
then i spent hours chaining for pyukumuku and breeding for minior with no luck

It's 1/512 chance with Masuda Method + Shiny Charm...so you can't quite complain about not being lucky just yet.

I remember my first attempt at the Masuda method in B/W 2, shiny Petilil after 1,300 eggs

SOSing gives you about a 1/682 chance and only applies after getting to a chain of 70. Also, the chain resets after 255.

I'm convinced the data we have is incorrect. I found Shiny Growlithe and Shiny Mankey around 30-40, and I recently found a Shiny Rufflet on the 7th encounter.

Every other SOS I've done has been unsuccessful no matter how long I did it.

There has to be some kind of catch. I have a feeling that you DO break the chain by killing the original Pokemon, at least for the Shiny Chance. There's been too many pre-40 encounter Shinies, and not enough that come from 40-255.

Breeding for a shiny right now. This is my first time but if I'm masuda-ing and have the shiny charm, I'm at max possible shiny chance, right? And what is that chance exactly?

About 60 eggs in and nothing so far but not surprised by that.
