Espeon was actually a glitched entity which had the same internal hex number as Espeon. Since there are not glitches like that in the third gen, Red didn't have one so instead Lapras got added.

Who's the artist? I bet they've done porn of this.

I doubt it.

1) Lapras fits 'bulky badass' like the rest of the team sans Pikachu, so Pikachu can be the sole 'cute' representative on his team, and

2) Espeon is a Gen II pokemon and they seem intent on keeping Red alongside Blue in having just Gen 1 pokemon.

Sad, I liked Espeon more than Lapras even if both are cool.
