He was a good antagonist.
I think we fought him the second most often, only behind Hau(whose all except 2 final battles doesn't pack much tension, something always presence in Guzma's). He even kind of developed a rivalry with MC, a stronger and much more hateful than "rival Gladion".
He also actually has clear backstory (problem with his home, old friend of Kukui and old student of Hala who went astray due to disappointment) and a rather humane motivation (to please the woman who was the only authority figure that gave him acknowledgement). His choice in signature pokemon also fit perfectly with his character. I know many people disappointed in him because they thought he would be revealed as a good guy or they hated how he was reduced to Lusamine's second banana. I however don't expect many things from him and was pleased how he turned out.

C'mon, he did nothing to the plot besides being Lusamine's pet. I expected more from him.
And no, his "tragic past" doesn't fix his lack of personality. Even Plumeria has a better character development than him.

All of this is irrelevant because, just like virtually every other character in the game, you would only know it if you were hunting for the info, which would require you to either be autistic like a good little JRPG player (in which case EVERY character has stuff like this), or you were already interested in Guzma from the outset (meaning you're likely biased).

I like him. His battle theme's cool, he's made to be amusing and ridiculous intentionally yet many can empathise with his -implied- backstory. He also has one of the best lines in the franchise.

IMO, Lillie and her family swallow everything. If you removed her family completely and gave their screen time to other characters and their interactions, the game would have been 10 times better, but they decided to follow BW to a T, which means sticking in a female "rival" who you're supposed to relate to/care about. I liked Bianca, at least she tried and wasn't constantly forcing you to help her with no say in the matter by merely existing.

Lillie makes me want to stuff her and the rest of her family into a lead bag and drop them into the ocean.
