It is a boogeyman hunt that gets you flamed viciously if you innocuously express surprise at gen 3 and 4 being the majority of users' defloration here.

I started playing in Gen 1. After Gen 2 came out, I realized how many things were wrong with Gen 1. Now, Gen 4 and 5 are my favorites. While I do like some Gen 1 mons still (Bulbasaur line, Exeggcute line, Slowpoke line), overall, it's my least favorite Gen.

Production values (music and artwork mostly) and worldbuilding. It also helps some of the characters are popular enough or somewhat established enough to sell figures.
Also, Gold/Silver/Crystal is 17/17/15 years old, so Misty's HGSS/timeskip design is pretty high up there in terms of "old gen" seniority

Got Pokemon Red the month it came out, when I was around 5. Chawizawd.
