Satoshi immediately tells Hala he will be attempting the Island Pilgrimage, but Hala tells him he needs to be tested to make sure he is qualified for the pilgrimage first.

2018's movie (20th anniversary movie) is an original movie, it's not strictly tied to the tv show. it's a classy, serious-ish (still for kids, though) animated film about a young boy and his pikachu.
