Since I post Maple pretty much every time in these threads, here's someone relatively new, and probably a lot closer to the kind of "trainer" I'd be.

Jane, a lazy ass who has to be forced to go out whether into the wild or public. She knows some of the theoretical stuff about battles, especially since she owns a Ditto and is often given the chance to look at all kinds of movesets he copies, even when not in combat, but doesn't actually have any combat experience. The Ditto, Forge, was her only partner from early childhood till her current age of 22 years.
At this point she's been booted from her home, albeit on a paid trip to the Sileda region from her parents, promising to make something of herself on an island full of strong wild Pokemon and competition-heavy atmosphere. She's since caught a Froakie, a Trevenant, and a Murkrow during quests, but a party full of tougher individuals definitely helped her not lose her shit throughout. Though she's yet to spread her social wings, she's already gained some human friends through the few experiences she's had so far. She lives in a somewhat dingy apartment in Citadel, but would like to make a Secret Base like some of her friends at some point, if she ever learns how. She likes to wear comfy things and be an annoying fujoshit.

Because of all the time they've been together, Jane also has a unique trick she can perform with her Ditto, but I'll get to that in another post.

I don't wanna go into too much depth in a thread like this, but I guess you're doing me a favor asking, since at least others will see the answer to a common question right away.

So we really have two vehicles for RP: Discord and Roll20. In Discord, we chat and discuss stuff as normal, as well as propose and take part in casual RPs that are mostly for character interaction and development, and just doing whatever the fuck. Roll20 is a site that allows us to upload maps and markers, and is where we conduct quests, which are where people can catch new Pokemon and get a lot of growth in. Anyone who submits a quest to the Bulletin may GM their own quest, though it may have to be reviewed ahead of time. We use some tabletop mechanics, but the rules differ according to the GM, as well as how adherently or loosely they abide by mechanics in general. Personally, my quests tend to use a slightly-modified version of the in-game damage calculation, since I have tools to make that easy, but there's also a lot of other actions characters and Pokemon can take and lots of rolls to be made for them.

True to the original purpose of these threads, we have tournaments, and are just having our first one this weekend, since many of our characters have progressed to a point that a well-sized tourney is possible. These will probably be bi-monthly or something, winner earns a Master Ball, which is the only way in our setting to catch legendaries, which no one has done yet.

Every character starts out with two to three Pokemon with a cumulative level of about 50, and will catch many more at a pretty decent pace. PvPs through Showdown will yield a level for all participants, but you can only gain experience from the same person once a day. RP battles against other trainers may yield more, for the reason that they tend to be much more difficult and usually just fall flat. Quests, however, have been fucking excellent and are the main method through which most have been leveling.

Emily Gobnet, my first OC in my pokemon RPG.
She is crazy about Steel types and will mono them.
On the start of the game, she lives in the same town as the players, on her own, receiving some money from her parents(they live in sinnoh)
She's kinda clingy, but when everyone in town departs to a journey, she find in that the courage to start one of her own, teamed up with one of the players.
Later, she gathers the courage to go alone in the world, exploring and gathering GYM badges, as well as catching Steel type pokemon in the Johto region, where the game is.
Up to now, she has a lv 18 Bronzor, lv 16 Magnemite and a Lv 15 Voltorb(Starter pokemon) and desperately wants a Skarmory.
Got three badges, from Violet, Ecruteak and Olivine

To add to this, though it sounds like it would be a chaotic mesh-mosh with different GMs and such, the group has been very good about common sense, and mods don't even need to have much authority at all. We've been self-stabilizing, but get plenty of new members from time to time that integrate perfectly, we are not a cliquey bunch.

We are very forgiving, and have only banned one person who was exceptionally insufferable and beyond the help we offered them for months. Just don't be a sourpuss about absolutely everything and you should be fine. We have a ranting room (not the main chat), so if you need to angst, do it there.

If it helps, the gym leader actually never comes around, and is an NPC if anything when she does.

Within that character listing, there's probably at least 15 characters who never come around anymore and a good few of those who have never appeared at all. And this is after we had a pruning.

Even so, the remainder makes for a damn active group with varied parties for quests, but we always can appreciate more, especially those with ideas to add to the table.

Presently, no, since most of us use something similar to the game's mechanics for damage calculation and such, and most people don't wanna input too many different values to calculate at a time, several times to different targets per turn. I'm sure some GMs (including myself) aren't opposed to including EVs if the party members want to. We'd be willing to hear your thoughts on the matter if you think it could be executed well, but we have a mixture of people, some who like rigid tabletop rules and some who are used to only text-based RP.

And yes, it's completely fine to join the discord. Just keep in mind it's 4 AM in burgerland so activity won't be picking up much the next few hours. I myself am barely still conscious.

I really need to refresh more so that I can reply to more at once, but no, not in the slightest. You are a Pokemon trainer, so you can build your team however you want, but it's up to the GMs what you encounter. Those first two or three Pokemon are freebies though, so choose em wisely, but I'd suggest showing some restraint for the sake of balance if you can.

Cumulative. For example, Maple, my first character, started out with a Lv26 Larvitar and a Lv 18 Staryu, or something like that (our limit was 45 at the time I think). So you could have like, two Lv15s and a Lv20, or a Lv35 and a Lv15, or even a Lv49 and a newbown Lv1, whichever works for you. Things level decently fast overall, anyway.

Just to bump the thread, but the trainer gal I have in this setting is an Unovian named Toplina Vodi, whose concept is mostly a nod to two different Pokémon characters featured in separate Pokémon LPs.

Her concept is built around a character who only knew of Pokémon on a second hand level - She went to school to learn about general knowledge of the world, as well as how to raise Pokémon, but outside her pet Shinx, she never captured any new Pokémon. It took her pet actually running away from their home town of Lacunosa, for her to begin her own personal Pokémon journey, as Toto insisted on chasing after a Drifloon, and once human and pet reunited, they were chased around by a Hydreigon that seemed strangely insistent on fighting against the young adult, despite her poor aptitude as a trainer.

It's the same Discord, since it's still in the Sileda region and everything, but the RP takes place in different rooms.

Thing is, the person in charge of it hasn't ironed out all the details yet, so it doesn't exist yet. I mean the rooms are there, but empty. We have most of the leveling/IQ system down, mechanically it's pretty much fine, but I guess she needs some help as far as actual world-building goes, such as what their central town should look like and who the NPCs should be.

Right now she's running a quest anyhow so she probably isn't too free at the moment, but it shouldn't be too long.

No, it's kinda tabletop style, all of us have our own characters and teams.

Pic related was the map for an earlier one (mind you, drawn by our best artist, and that definitely ain't me), we pretty much all started in the lower right corner and progressed through there, through Roll20 we can place and move markers for each character, as well as wild Pokemon and NPCs that appear. This map in particular was huge and took a couple sessions to get through, then the final area was on a different map, and was largely an open battle arena since the boss was a colossus.

It's a very nice site and easy to learn. Different GMs do things differently, but I tend to use damage calculations similar to the games, and you gotta roll for stuff like accuracy and secondary effect, but anyone can choose to use their moves or skills in ways that aren't their normal purpose. In those cases, they describe it and then roll for success, and how high they'd need to roll depends on things like how capable the character would be of doing something like that, how difficult the task is, how much luck it'd require, etc. So a Machamp would have to roll to use Strength to throw a fallen pillar at a target, but would find it much easier to do than something like a Smeargle. Also there are things like making a ground slick with Ice Beam, blocking a cave tunnel with Rock Slide, Digging a hole big enough for others to take cover in, etc.

Well, heres something, had the plan for this guy for a fanfic i was gonna write before realizing I couldn't do it alone.

Solga'kame- or Solga for short. The story involved the world before pokeballs, and he was a supporting character for the main party.
He lives alone in a temple near the top of Twist Mt. in Unova. He acts as a Hierophant for Legendary Pokemon,a leader for a village, and attempts to collect and document as much as he can for these Pokemon so he can pass down valuable information to those who wish to learn. While generally a pacifist, he can use the few, strong Pokemon he has to battle. These include a Kommo-o, Volcarona, Medicham, and Dusknoir he brefriended.
He has a strange, bulky, gauntlet like multipurpose tool (as seen by the bad MS paint art)

Wears a very stoic expression, and a quiet voice. He tries to speak as a friendly, yet strict, person.

Apparel: The strange tool, as well as an ornate robe (think of a cross between Akatsuki clothing, the patterns of Ghetsis' robe, and Luxury ball colors)

The initial unveiling of the character was gonna be when the main cast, a Native Unovan hunter, a Kalosian soldier, and Sinnoh prince, attempt to climb up his mountain to get some insight of who "The Eternal Pokemon" and "Forces of Nature" are.

Thanks, I was going for Sugimori's style.
For me , I looked at character artwork with similar poses and tried to imitate his way of drawing them. He uses a rough textured, steady brush for lining so I tried to do that too. Some of the colors are actually just color picked right from official artwork so I could get the palette right. It was pretty fun.

So I would love to join this but before I do I would like to submit my charecter for public review.
Summery: Sean grew up in Floaroma Town with his family growing berries with the help of the local bug pokemon. His father was a bug type expert who taught him everything he knew about bug type Pokemon so he could one day take over the farm but Sean always had a love for battles that he watched on his television. After many arguments Sean finely convinced his father to let him travel and after spinning a globe and placing his finger randomly he set off for the Sileda Islands.
Strengths/Weakness : Strengths: Physically Strong with great endurance due to years working his family farm and an ability to see the bright side of things.
Weakness: Because he was raised having a very sheltered life he is extremely gullible and will sometimes get into sticky situations.
Pokemon: Airheart (Vivillon Lv 15) Elizibeth (Vespiquen Lv 21) and Beetlejuice (Shuckle Lv 14)
Suggestions would be really helpful, if I should add or remove anything ect.

Drew a new character last night, bit she isn't a Pokémon OC till I draw a Pokéball in one of her hands or something

I guess she's a Lass, but she's also a runaway. Very carefree, always moving, always exploring, packing light. Owns and lives on a Torterra, only ever returning him when presently using another party member to fight. He'll be drawn in the frame when I'm done.

Even though I already have a fuckload, I only ever give Maple, Jane, and Demi any usage, and far less of the latter two. This girl, think I'm naming Konami, is a character type I haven't played in a long time and miss doing so, basically a free spirit with few social graces and no sense of danger, probably runs around a lot in dirty sundresses. The school uniform is stolen/a spare one given to her, probably, I drew a few outfits on top of her and this one looked best for some reason.

No, but our Tournaments, which are what award Master Balls capable of catching legends/mythicals, do go by Smogon rules. So Maple's Aegislash is banned from Singles tourneys, but not dubs/trips, and certainly not quests.

Other than that, all legendaries are banned from the start, and 670BST+ legendaries cannot be caught at all as far as our rules go presently. Hoopa and Celebi are also no-go because of the extent of their canon powers, and the Tapus (as much as I hate to say it) are out unless we can find a damn good excuse as to why they are somewhere besides Alola.
