The key is grinding them up to 82, then using the 7 level meal and the 9 level meal followed by 2 rare candies.

Still takes awhile but it's not too unreasonable until you get into the pokes that don't actually need to reach 100 because they can just be bred perfect from the get go.

Fine, 79, meal, meal, 5 candies. Works out so long as you aren't in a hurry to get multiple pokes to 100. One a day has been more than I've actually needed anyway.
