I don't even play GO but I think it's kinda cool that they're doing a build up. Like you know, they're trying to explain adding 100 mew mons by some discoveries and shit and they keep adding more and more or make you travel to 'another region'. It feels unnecessary but Go fanbase consists of mostly genwunners so taking babysteps makes sense so they won't go completely apeshit. Also I guess they want to hype this thing up more
