It really was incredible back then, but I replayed it when the VC releases happened, and holy shit it has aged like milk. I liked every game but just couldn't keep playing Ruby after finishing it so it was my personal worst (although I still liked it)

Sun is seriously bad (in my opinion), the very first Pokemon game ever where I can't motivate myself to keep playing.

For me it was my first Pokémon game in a full 2 years, so I was just happy to be playing the series I guess, but I remember distinctly thinking I had more fun with Crystal, Ruby or Leafgreen (the three games I played in order before it) than with Pearl version. The only reason why people give oras so much shit is because of the frontier thing. It introduced us to soaring which was fucking great, everybody is crying now over blissey bases which were a divine gift, the hatching path was absolutely amazing. You could fucking catch almost all the legendaries in the postgame. I find them worse for shiny hunting. You would get the equivalent of 5 encounters at the same time in like a max of 10 seconds. S.O.S gives you one other encounter,that is if the pokemon even is able to call for something. I agree there is more variety in mons to S.O.S chain,but its not better than horde

I played Emerald's BF with imperfect mons and half assed EV training.

The most work I did was getting an Adamant Salamence with Dragon Dance.

You didn't need perfect Pokemon to take on the Frontier, that's what made it fun.

Yes because Critical hits, speed ties, paralysis, flinching and so on doesn't occur in the main game. Literally everything you consider "getting fucked by the RNG" is within the main game as well.

Goombas funnily enough have a lot of variety to them from your garden variety to paragoombas to micro goombas. Then there's Goomboss and big Goombas, the Goomba tower, Goomba's shoe, Cat Goombas. For a visual difference there's even Bone Goombas.

Kind of makes you wonder why they haven't made a full Goomba level yet.

Also the BF had considerably more variety than your average tower clone.
Hell the Pyramid and Pike don't even follow the same format.
