Well, there's not much more to it really. It's assumed a Solgaleo/Lunala appeared in the past and then disappeared, possibly back to UB world. It would be interesting though to find out in which circunstances the previous Solgaleo/Lunala came to Earth, when the altars were built. I hope they make a sequel to SM and touch upon that.

I also hope they allow more exploration on the UB world. It was so cool to navigate in the Distortion World, only crossing a straight path in the UB Universe was hella dissapointing
