I guess it gets praised because it's one of the extremely rare Pokemon fangames that actually get finished. But something like Pokemon Brown is 10x better despite being much older and a rom hack. Pokemon Prism is coming out soon too, they managed to put fucking character customization on the GSC engine.

This sounds pretty easy. Make a few sections of the sprite(head, top, bottom, feet) with choices for each and palette swaps for different colors.

Would be way easier than doing it on a 3D model game where each piece of clothing needs a model of its own
