PBR ruined the series for me.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Those amazing move animations.

That announcer that was pure hype.

The character customization.

The characters being all animated, getting all cocky when they win or really angry when they lose.

No ranked srs bzns matches, could use any Pokemon you wanted.

Genius Sonority knew what Pokemon was all about: FUN. Since Game Freak started doubling down on "competitive", I've had less and less fun. No hype, no announcter, silly restrictions, always the same teams.... no fun.

Pokemon wasn't supposed to be an e-sports game. Genius Sonority understood this, why can't Game Freak?

>Just play unranked then!

Most people on unranked are just testing their "pro" teams, not to mention how long it takes to find a match.

No ranked means that people just tried to have fun on Battle Revolution.

The high amount of disconnects means that some of the "just have fun" spirit was still present in BW, as people realized that it was pointless to go to ranked matches when the opponent could just DC to avoid losing points. But now... it's so serious business that I can't even use my bros that I've been playing with for over 10 years because of some dumb rule.

Why did it have to go this way, /vp/? Should I just quit the series, knowing that I'll never have as much fun as in PBR again? Will the series on the Switch continue trying to be e-Sports, or will they remember that Pokemon was supposed to be a game for everyone to play together and have fun?
>>
>>30683765
You are literally the only person I ever heard of that liked Battle Revolution
>>
>>30683845
Battle Revolution was great when it launched.

There was no other way to get random matches with people, and it had doubles too.

People using all kinds of crazy sets just for the shit of it, people putting a Mewtwo on their team, people running monotype... it was so fun. I miss it.
>>
>>30683845
I like PBR too. It wasn't fantastic but I still had a good time.
>>
>Genius Senority didn't care about competitive.
>Game becomes unplayable without properly trained mons after beating round 1 since it locks you into round 2.
>>
>>30683765
Dumb irrelavent question. Is win / loss recorded in xy/oras/sunmoon? Probably the reason I stick with simulators since it's a permament record of my shittiness/ I don't want to see 1 permantent loss record mentality.

>>
JUDGEMENT HAS BEEN DEALT

Another thing, I forgot you could trade teams with people you fought. That was a great idea that GF should implement in the main games.

>>30684004
The blue corner faces a great deal of pressure!

>>30684002
The last ones that did that on the trainer card was BW2.

But your win/loss will be marked on your global link profile.
>>
>>30683765
Didn't you have a total of like 40 pokemon you could use if you didn't sync to a copy of dp? That was stupid.

Should of had the same rental system as stadium. Maybe with move custimization.
>>
>>30684001
This. Battle Mode in Colosseum and Mt Battle in GoD became also unplayable if you didn't use competitive trained Pokémon in the higher leagues.

>>
>>30684096
It was hard, but not impossible. I mean, you had Pokemon like Zapdos and Aggron avaliable.

I loved PBR.
I still have that Electivire and Magmortar with the PKTOPIA OT.

And while I loved it, it was a shit game.
If you didn't have a Gen4 game with good mons you were shit outta luck. It was basically a battle simulator for your Gen4 mons.

If you bought the game and expected a Pokemon Stadium, you would be really fucking dissapointed.

Still, online was fun as hell.

> mfw trolling people with Tri-Attack Serene Grace Togekiss

You can get a Serene grace Togepi in Pokemon XD
>>
>>30683845
Eh, I liked it too. I know a decent chunk of people who enjoyed it also. The announcer was fucking primo, you cannot deny that.

But that's beyond the point. Though, I think GF added plenty of fun stuff for casual/noncompetitive play. Poke Pelago is growing on me like I wouldn't believe, and Pokemon Refresh is way better than Amie was.

I just wish most final stages of Pokemon were developed around the same base stats so more were viable, and thus, more fun/diversity. I think that there's a future that exists in which Pokemon is extremely diverse, rich, and endless fun in competitive, not everybody running genies or Celesteela or whatever it is.

Eh, I have it on my AS cart. It's waiting until Bank opens so I can fix them IVs like you said. It's just going to be for trolling the shit out of random battles online, and my friends. Serene Grace+Tri-Attack is why you use it. Damage is a pity yes, but goddamn is it hilarious to have half your opponents team be frozen/paralyzed/burned.

Also have bottle caps set aside for that Electivire. Fuck I love that Electivire.

Maybe one day I will finish my current playtrough of X...err...Gale of Darkness and clone those Togepis to give away on veepee.

I doubt if I can be bothered with that Electrivire again. I already have a 5IV one with the same moveset, if I made yet another, it will be for balltism purposes (ultra ball)

I've played both. While the Pokemon models were the same as Stadium (and Colosseum), the increased polygon count made them look nice.

And the trainers were excellent. They reacted when attacking and when their Pokemon got hit, unlike SM's.

As for the announcter... both are good. The only problem I have with PBR's announcer was the use of the word "stats". "X keeps gaining stats!" was terrible for immersion.

What do you expect Game Freak to do? Game Freak doesn't design Pokemon games with competitive as a top priority.

Pokemon didn't become competitive because it was designed that way, it became competitive because of WiFi and the evolving competitive community.

>What do you expect Game Freak to do? Game Freak doesn't design Pokemon games with competitive as a top priority.
>Pokemon didn't become competitive because it was designed that way, it became competitive because of WiFi and the evolving competitive community.

When you start feeding it with ladders, rulesets (can't use Pokemon from older gens, really?) and Pokemon specifically made for competitive (gen 6 was full of those) that were unobtainable during the main game, yeah, I'd say that competitive is GF's priority right now.

We're at a point where most strategies doesn't works anymore, simply having a balanced team doesn't works, you have to counter every single autistic combo that has been introduced since gen 5 if you don't want to lose 4-0.

The latest in the autism spectrum are the Tapus and Ultra Beasts. This crap wouldn't have existed in gen 4. Increasing your offenses to the point where you're OHKOing 50% of the game, or boosting because you got a kill with those ridiculous stats?

Read the above carefully and it'll become clear that GF is pandering to the competitive "I want to be special" crowd rather the average people.

Did you see VGC2009?

The world finals had a rain team (as in, Rain Dance, not Drizzle) and a fucking Shedinja on it.

The Pokemon weren't designed with competitive in mind. Sure you had your Salamences with Draco Meteor, but outside of that, you had room to experiment. You didn't eat Aeriliate/Parental Bond Double Edges or Shattered Psyches/Devastating Drakes and had your shit OHKOed. You didn't have to worry about all the OP shit that's been stacked on top of one another since gen 5.

I mean, everyone thought that DisQuake would be the top tier strat along with CM Trick Room Cresselia and Explosion Heatran. Neither made it to the finals, and neither makes you lose turn 1 because you didn't specifically made your team to counter them.

That, along with PBR's carefree online, was what made it fun to me.

OU was pretty homogenized already in gen IV, but UU and under got all of the broken, powercreeped mons from gen IV's OU and it wasn't pretty. Now you're stuck with that "USE ABSOLUTE META OR DIE" mentality instead of "anything can work".

It's funny looking back at PBR now that the main games have 3d models

Don't do VGC then. There's actual differentiation in Singles. And Battle Spot has very few restrictions over all, not to mention you can just battle someone with any rules you want.

You're literally just too autistic to want to talk to someone to battle.

I liked the Genius Sorority games, but all the non-contact moves were really weak, lacked the Oopm from the Stadium games and now S/M
Compare Stone Edge in PBR, which was a bunch of slow shards, to S/M, which is a fucking stalagmite coming out of the floor.
>>
>>30688963
Watch a PBR match... everything is much better animated, from the trainers to the Pokemon to the moves. In the normal Z-move, the Pokemon literally slides towards the opponent... while in PBR they have a moving animation.

The one thing that SM does better are some physical moves like Close Combat and Power Whip.
>>
>>30689121
PBR doesn't even have animations for status moves.
>>
>>30689190
I will admit some of the moves lacked impact, like flamethrower. In my opinion they were more visually impressive than anything S/M has to offer, though. That sort of comes with being on a console, though.

Despite Stadium 2 remaining my all-time favourite (also due to nostalgia and how it was my only N64 game back then), PBR was lots of fun despite the bitter aftertaste it gave with how it's very dependent on your DS games whereas in the Stadium games you could play around with a massive roster of rental mons.

That said, PBR got trainer customization and it was really well done and I love how the animations had more personality and expression to them. I really hope that, despite modern Pokemon games having become 3D, GameFreak or Nintendo will still reconsider a successor to PBR and the Stadium Games for the Nintendo Switch. I just want to play 3D Pokemon battling on the big screen. Nevermind the fact PBR and the Stadium games gave you the opportunity to have your team fight against other teams you have used in the past --- I really wish there was a way for my Sun team to fight against my Y team or Yellow team, but alas.

>>30683845
PBR was actually great to have back then since your only options for playing online were DPPt with no Battle Spot, ridiculously slow and prone to random disconnections online battles and static 2D graphics, or Shoddy Battle which aside from speed and accessibility had nothing else going for it. Between Shoddy and PBR and smogons Wi-Fi subforum I had all of my online battling needs covered.
>>
>>30685847
>those smooth text-attack transitions

I can't fucking wait for competitive battling to return to home consoles with the Switch Pokemon game. I tried watching VGC yesterday and I wanted to kill myself every time a Tapu Bulu or a Pokemon with Leech Seed/Leftovers appeared on the stream.

Man I was so disappointed when BW didn't get anything like this. Even with 3D models now it's just not the same, all the spectacle of an announcer added so much.

I'd be all for a mode like this on the Switch or whatever else, always had the most fun using in-game DP or HGSS teams anyway.

DS requirement aside, the game actually looked really fucking nice for a Pokemon console game, and I always opted to play that online over the DS games because of the neato animations and music. I think the only thing it lacked was Griseous Orb & Sky Form Shaymin support.
The real crime is that there'll never be a GS console Pokemon ever again, so we're stuck with these garbage bucktooth moeface retard character designs & lackluster Pokemon models on 3DS instead of something nifty like PBR or Colosseum.
