>So what do you think of the tourney so far anons?
Fun as always.

>What's been your favorite team?
That one guy with Silvally. Too bad he gots a bad matchup for his stream match.

>Your favorite player?
Ryosuke Kosuge. It's a shame that he's getting cockblocked by Arash.

>How about the mon you've liked the most so far?
I'm actually considering Gigalith as sekrit tek.

>Who are you glad to see getting BTFO?
Wolfey. A lot of my friends are cheering for him while I always hate him for his circlejerking and being unrespectful. Fuck him.

>Who are you cheering for tomorrow?
Ben Kyriakou. I hope he can do good in the top cut.
>>
>>30675782
Salamance
Tapu Koko
A-Marrowak
Celesteela
Garchomp
Porygon2

>So what do you think of the tourney so far anons?
great for a spectator, it must have been shit for the players tho
>What's been your favorite team?
Wolfe's team looked just unbeatable
>Your favorite player?
Gavelli is my new favourite. I also liked Ben's approach to the game.
>How about the mon you've liked the most so far?
Muk is the real surprise of this tournament, sadly I haven't seen any xurkitree action yet
>Who are you glad to see getting BTFO?
too many to name
>Who are you cheering for tomorrow?
I hope for Gavelli just because that would be an awesome debut in Masters division, but I think Tobias or Ben will take it home.

I was only able to show up for the last match, but I am just so disappointed at that Alejandro guy's mistakes. I feel even with a Curse Muk he could've pulled through at the end of round 2. Start of round 3 was sad with what happened to his Kartana
>>
>>30675729
I'd run Timid. After today, there's going to be a lot of mence, and you don't want to be on the losing end of a speed tie.
>>
>>30675699
I'm going to experiment around with:

Muk-Alola @ Figy Berry
Ability: Gluttony
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Atk / 12 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off
- Imprison

Did some theorymonning last thread and it seems solid so far.

>What's been your favorite team?
Ben's / Italian guy with Silvally

So I'm fooling around in the battle tree to practice some doubles since the game never really lets you do so otherwise - I'm running Bulu, Whimsicott, Muk and Drampa as the four (and Eviolite Clefairy plus A-Marrowak as my other two for my temp team). Drampa just isn't pulling his weight and I feel like I've got no offensive pressure besides Bulu who shitstomps stuff.
I don't really like Salamance, so I don't really want to switch to that instead of Drampa - Magnezone seems to put in quite a bit of work. Should I switch puff the magic dragon out for that?
Also is Clefairy and Whimsicott too much on a single team? I was considering Oranguru as well. Garchomp is another option as my team has a big poison weakness.
Not going to compete, just want to potentially do some wifi gen battles and battles with friends for fun.
>>

>Magnezone is a shitmon
Surely someone who said Gigalith/Pelipper were shitmons despite getting weather before this week tourney too.
>>
>>30676625
Not that guy, but the sole reason I'm watching this is to see my bro Gigalith Shine.
>>
>>30676480
> battle tree
>>
>>30676625
Stop taking the opinion of every shitter seriously. How can you think the opinion of anyone who says a weather setter is a shitmon is an opinion worth listening to?

Either way, Magnezone IS a one trick pony. All he's there for is to kill Celesteela and provides zero utility besides that. He's not a shitmon anymore but he's not a splashable tip top Pokemon either.
>>
wha is magnezone wolfe set?
>>
>>30676625
They are shitmons, except that they do one thing well and thus have a niche.

Magnezone fits a very specific niche, which he is very good at and thus he's an amazing metagame choice, but he's not a good battle tree pokemon because he doesn't do shit against the vast majority of pokemon that aren't steel type and weak to one of his stabs. He has like two usable moves and 60 speed.

You want coverage choices and easy OHKOs in battle tree, and Magnezone does not give you that. Niche choices are for metagaming, not for going up against quick claw sheer cold walreins and brightpowder minimize chanseys.
>>
>>30676816
I don't know anon, why don't you ask Wolfe?

Or just let me watch the VOD with my magical "tells the set of every Pokemon" glasses so I can tell you.

It's fucking Magnezone, people have ran it the same fucking way since Gen 4. Thunderbolt, Flash Cannon. Filler. Filler.

Why are we getting so many shitters asking for such obvious questions lately? Who put up a Your Personal Teambuilding Army sign? Because goddamn son.
>>
Weird battle-related question...

Let's say I have light screen up, and then I use surf.
Will the light screen lower damage done to my ally pokemon by its parter's surf?
Or does reflect/light screen only affect damage from enemy pokemon?
Haven't been able to find a concrete answer about that...
>>
>>30676786
Magnezone is not a top tier pokemon, there we agree.

Magnezone being a one trick pony? There we not. But as seeing there's people like the one I'll quote below around these times I'll discuss later if you're still around.

>>
>>30676845

>>
>>30676914
It you should lower self-inflicted damage too.
>>
How do people build their leech seed celesteela?
I'm seeing ti everywhere, but I have no idea what their spread is like?
Is it max speed, because it consistently outspeeding mine.
>>
>>30676959
From what I saw on stream it's all over the place. Literally depends on what you want to do with it.
>>
>>30676917
inb4 he asks you for nature, evs and item too.
>>
>>30676959
Celesteela doesn't and will "never" have a standard spread. Get this into your head already. Fit her to your team needs.
>>
>>30676816
Magnezone has like 3 usable moves, one of which is Hidden Power. Wolfe however ran sub/protect/thunderbolt/flash cannon, opting out of the Hidden Power fire or ground debate.
>>
>>30677004
I'm running a offensive one with wide guard, but I remember you get two of them, so I have no idea what to run on the second one.
>>30677027
I understand their no "standard build", but was wondering if their is a certain speed people run. I'll hate the matchup if it came down to with ever got the leech seed first wins.
>>
>>30677082
As far I know people run negative natures or no speed at all. Just give it 2 or 3 plus speed or so.
>>
>>30676959
>but I have no idea what their spread is like?

Right now there aren't standard spread for 90% of the meta.
Everyone is walking in the darkness trying to make the best spread possible to bring at the tournament.

Even last week, when you shitposters complained about the lack of different pokémon, most pokémon that weren't Nihilego had different sets.
>>
>>30677082
Make sure to outspeed fully invested speed Marowak, which surprisingly is a thing. Then judge from your own experience.

Meta's too young to know what else you want. I have my team on showdown and whenever I need to adjust, I touch there first then EV train on cart. You may inject EVs if you're in a pinch, just don't tell the mutt.

12+ SpA Celesteela Inferno Overdrive (185 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Magnezone: 178-210 (100.5 - 118.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Celesteela outspeeds Magnezone if they're both uninvested.
>>
>>30677971
there's a lot of old players who skipped 2016 because "they didn't like the format" and now they came back thinking they can still be the bigshots they were in earlier years without realising that 2016 was the ultimate level up for a lot of vgc players. Once you've gained the skill to consistently beat smeargle+xerneas cores some washed up vgc2015 player isn't going to beat you.
>>
>>30678129
Well, Cybertron didn't skip 2016, he only pussied out of worlds in favor of commentating because "shit format, my chances of winning are low specially since I'm starting on day 1, I'll go for the safe thing that'll boost my youtuber popularity and gives me other benefits and stuff".

Cybertron is a good player but he always chokes right at the finish line. He's as popular as he is now because he was the first to exploit the VGC Youtuber niche that didn't exist until he stepped in.
>>
>>30678235
he didn't do well because he barely practiced for vgc16, his amount of vgc16 videos can be counted on two hands.

>>
>>30678067
12 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Magnezone: 80-96 (55.1 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Magnezone Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Celesteela: 122-146 (59.8 - 71.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

It looks like just running flamethrower on Celesteela might be enough.

>>
>>30679297
He didn't make into top 8, if he did it would have been ok
>>
>>30679297
It's a tiebreaker method.

It depends on how well your opponents did so basically there's 5 people who tied, the person who got lucky enough to get paired by opponents who also did well in the tourney will be the one winning the tiebreaker.

People don't like it because last year top cut started to be decided by x-2 results on swiss with everyone getting that making top cut and more importantly because it takes away the results from the hands of the players, it's not about their performance anymore, it's how others did what will decide if they will win or not the tiebreaker.
>>
>>30679399
thank you for that explanation
>>
Stop running Scarf Chomp, please and thanks.
>>
>>30679297
It's a perfectly acceptable and fair method to use to determining tie breakers. True it can punish you if your early opponents do badly but there's no perfect system. The real problem here is having an 8 man top cut for 549 players, 32 would have made much more sense and would have included most/all of the X-3s.

Can anyone here tell me what the Japanese route to Worlds is like? I heard in a video I watched about a year ago (I think it was Cybertron, might've been Baek) that they have their own system that's separate from the accumulation of CP that everyone else plays by and that it's more brutal to work your way up through it. Or maybe I'm way off and just misremembering things. I ask because I'm planning on moving there next year and it might be the first time I'll be able to access VGC events.
>>
>>30679936
Oranguru is good, his problem is that it's easy to predict so in a best of 3 you don't want to bring it in.

Oranguru would've been everywhere if it wasn't for Showdown. Nobody uses it because people rapidly developed counters for any strategy using it, since they knew how strong it was.

There's qualifiers on every region.

On simpler terms, you have to win a premier challenge to qualify for a regional and then win that regional to become your region representative for nats and then whoever tops nats are the ones who get invites for world.

It's indeed pretty brutal. I have no idea why their system is so different from the rest of the world.

No. What you can expect is something more similar to 2014, which is the only other year to have started out with Pokebank locking out some moves till after the new year.

However there is nothing really good this time round that has been locked out besides like a few Skill Swap users, Wide Guard and Fake Out. Gamefreak dropped the ball hard in terms of new moves for the most part.

I specifically remember watching a mind-numbing verlisify video where he makes the idiotic point that basically no pokemon should ever be banned and that's why smogon is so dumb and stupid and wrong. He specifically mentioned that mega-kangaskhan is not a big deal in VGC because "no pokemon is overpowered when you have 2 pokemon attacking it!!" He said that M-Kang is not popular and isn't a big deal in doubles battling.

What a fucking idiot. It's like everything he does is wrong. How the fuck does he have 300,000 subscribers? Are they all little fucking retarded kids?

Your average /vp/ idiot complaining about variety, smogon, etc is his audience.

Believe it or not people who care AND understand how competitive works are a massive minority. For better or worse, he found himself a niche and pandered to it, that's how he got so popular, because him being mostly a shit stirring clickbaiting faggot, there's people who honestly and truly think in the same manner the content of his videos present.

Landorus-T will still be a pain in the ass and make Garchomp cry... probably.

Now with the changes to Prankster and the way confusion and paralysis work in gen 7 Thundurus should be quite more manageable.

Now I wonder how Heatran and Cress would fare.

It still remains the utilmate bulky supporter, right now we have a virtual duck, but Cress is the duck queen.

This, you CAN run a set where you go @Life Orb and then Nasty Plot on the turn they think you want to set up a TR but instead set up to sweep. But that only works on Showdown/BS because of the best of 3 format.

The Verlisify effect.

This fucker actually does one thing well: Manipulate Youtubes Algorith. Cheeky asshole knows how it works and abuses it.

Everyone who searches for "Breeding guide" "TM guide" "Charizard Guide" (Or any other mon) will run into one of his videos.

And a few of them actually do have solid info. It's easy to fall into the trap, and think that the guy is legit. He also has a guide for pretty much every Pokemon. To his credit, that took a lot of effort (Doesn't help his case that most of them are shit)

On the surface Verlisify seems very innocent. It's only when you look a bit deeper you'll see how much of a furry asshole this guy is.
>>
>>30684204
Yeah no shit sherlock, I even say that in my post. It seems like it works due to the surprise factor, but falls short in a best of 3.

>>30684259
I give credit where it's due. Verlisfy, for better or worse, is a pretty smart dude. He's not just shitposting for the sake of shitposting. He managed to identify an untouched niche and make it his. Hey may be a shit stirring dramatic furfaggot but the fucker knows what he's doing and doing it right, that's how he got so popular in first place and for all we know what we see is just a youtuber persona he made up.

He, as you said, knows how to exploit the system.

I just broke through 1300 elo on Showdown with this set-up after being tilted back to 1200's by Gyarados.

As for "Run Gyarados or Celesteela". I feel like I get btfo whenever I use Gyarados and have no idea how to run the fucker where it functions well with this team.

> everyone running Download Duck
> Have literally seen it getting a beneficial boost ONCE

Considering how common this thing is, that's pretty sad. Why don't more people use Trace? I use Trace on mine on Showdown and it's a lot more beneficial than a fucking +1 Attack it usually gets.

Especially with Intimidate being so common, Lightningrod, even some terrains can be used to your advantage. At worst it doesn't do much, but I have had many games where I got an intimidate and managed to live trough shit I shouldn't have. Getting Beast Boost and boosting Sp.Def when it KOs something. Lightningrod is also a good one, not only do you get another re director, but it also gets a Sp.Atk boost.

Try it out Anons. It's better than Download.
>>
>>30685034
>Why don't more people use Trace?
Supposedly, it's to avoid getting self-cucked with Lightning Rod or losing losing the terrain war you won by tracing your opponent terrain.
>>
>>30685034
From experience.

In Singles = Trace > Download
In Doubles = Download > Trace

Adaptability only works well on Porygon-Z for reasons.
>>
>>30685166
Then run Analytic, it's way more reliable since P2 is so slow anyway.
>>
>>30685227
B-But what if I get the Sp Atk boost anon? What if then? I'd be missing out!
>>
Finally got my Ditto and the Knot, what should I breed lads.
>>
>>30685226

>>
>>30684766
Tapu Koko should have Protect. Volt Switch or HP Ice aren't that necessary since the latter doesn't even guarantee KOs on the things that threaten it such as Garchomp.

Marowak should have enough attack to guarantee it KOs any fully physically defensive Celesteela. Keep in mind that the more you invest in attack, the better return you get from Thick Club.

Mimikyu needs its IV and EVs fixed. No point having a 0 speed IV if you're investing speed EVs.

King's Rock is a terrible item.

Araquanid should probably have a -Speed nature if you're running Scald since you're just hurting your potential damage output.
>>
>>30685268
I've heard PKHex is a good splashable that goes in every team.
>>
>>30685227
Analytic isn't available until pokebank gets updated, since porygon is a gift. It'll definitely be worth using once it becomes legal.

So why is there so little redirection this year?

There's Clefairy/Clefable, Smeargle, Lucario, Parasect, Ariados and Butterfree for it. Most of these are pretty crappy but you'd think at least the first three I mentioned would see some use. What went wrong?
>>

>>
>>30685655
early meta
>>
>>30685655
The first two don't stack well with the Tapus being Fairy-types and all, Clefairy and Smeargle don't generate nearly enough offensive pressure in a format where pretty much every mon needs to pull its weight in that regard.
>>

Try to imagine that you are in the oponent position and think about why did they make a certain move.
Understand which of your pokemon is a threat to your opponent and based from that, guess their lead pokemons.

Sometimes discussion after battle can be helpful too.

Is Hail good this year or will I have to wait for yet another year to see if a miracle happens?
>>
>>30693584
Some top teams use the ninetales but it is only for aurora veil + icy wind. You don't actually use the hail to do anything and you limit the number of ice shitmons on your team to just that 1.
>>
>>30693584
Mean had a weird-ass Hail team with PheroLele and Special Blizzard Aquaranid. I still have no idea what he was doing there. All he did was get rekt when on stream.

>>
>>30693690
Hariyama, muk.
>>
>>30693690
Wood hammer does more damage than superpower. As seen yesterday with tapu lele and raichu, double targeting and z moves are good options. Taunt, especially since you know they won't be running mental herb.
>>
20 minutes to go
>>
>>30693764
Most of them only run trick-room or recover, and I usually just roar before the trick room.
Is running taunt over roar better?
And just to recap, just double slam it with attack plus z-move?

My Bulu is looking like this currently
Tapu Bulu@ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252ATK/ 4 SPDEF
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Rock Slide
- Wood Hammer
- Nature's Madness
>>
>>30693921
Taunt is mainly for recover. And yeah, double targeting, with one move being a z move. It's kinda ridiculous how much it takes to kill P2.
>>
>>30693584
Hail is good if you are bulky since it breaks sashes and picks some KOs. It's hail teams that are bad.
