If you're complaining about the moves, its normally to keep the AI in line. Now better AI would be ideal, but in the mean time I'll take sets like this that least attack with a semblance of reason instead of buffing/debuffing while they're being KO'd.

Would Flygon even have any reason to use a move that wasn't Earth Power/DragonBreath?

It's not like Tierno who made his Pokemon only know one/two moves for a shitty gimmick, Flygon has everything it needs since it should hit most everything but Ribombee at least neutrally. 2 moves was probably an insurance plan that the AI only used it's strongest STABs.

Honestly, she caught me off-guard first by being 5 levels above my team and starting off with a Dugtrio. Had to soft-reset when my panda got rekt against it due to Sand Veil making it miss three times.

Second time I had less accuracy hax and won fairly easily. I don't get why people complain about how difficult her Mudsdale is, just use a Special move. If you've got only physical attackers, then yes, you deserve to lose.

Not that anon, but going through this game with an underlevelled, lopsided team of mostly physicals with little coverage has been damn fun. I prefer it when I lose the odd big fight and can come back for another go, but perhaps thats just me. Sure I could build a team with total coverage and an answer to every situation, but thats what online play/showdown is for, in game I just throw together whatever I like and have at it

The only trainer who ever wrecked me. I learned very quickly that all but one of my then-current team members was weak to steel/ground coverage and the one that wasn't was 10 levels under Dugtrio and slower, so my shit got rekt.

Move choices are usually determined by how much damage their attacks are calculated to do. Some will prioritise status/support moves too. It's why Kukui's Lycanroc usually just sets up rocks if it won't OHKO/2HKO. He actually has the best AI in the game I think.

It's for coverage. They always have at least one move that works off of their strong attack stat, generally the strongest available. Which is all you really need. The other moves are then used to exploit different type advantages so the pokemon is at least a fair bit more effective at dealing with more different types.
