It's even easier than that, just flip it- if Zen Mode was like shields down where he started bulky and became fast and fragile it would have been fine, you use the first turn to buff while you enjoy the respectable bulk that will take the umph out of the first hit you receive. Evidence- Minior is fantastic.

Yeah, that'd be better; doesn't quite match the intended flavour I think though.

What if zen mode and power construct gets entirely dumped and the zen mode Darmanitan is now available to use without that shitty gimmick, same goes for Perfect Jigarude.

By dropping these shit abilities there's room for some real ones.

Not much. I think it only learns nost of the fire type moves for special attacks and the only psychic move it learns, I think, is Psychic.
