The animation of the characters and pokemon moving is about the same as XY just not as pretty.
Hell the water Pokemon still don't animate half the time.

The anime is probably on its last legs, and should have ended with XY. SM was a last ditch effort to increase ratings because of Yokai Watch but it didn't make a difference.

At this point the only alternate they have is to do a real reboot without Ash and an all new continuity. If that's the case they'll finally let Ash become champion before sending him off.

Seems like SM's trying to go the extra mile with every scene and character interaction, like slice-of-life tends to do, except the whole thing is just jarring at the moment since the audience hasn't been given time to warm up to the characters, so there's little reason to care about everyone's quirks (though I'm starting to like Mamane, for some reason, he shares some of Citron's love for tech).

And even then, this recently subbed episode was the first one where the team dynamic actually showed up (although Suiren and Satoshi were the only ones who battled the Rocket Gang). The previous ones were just about Satoshi, with his posse being there for colour commentary.

The series hasn't picked up yet, but it appears to be trying something. Let's hope it's something worthwhile.

SM is what happens when you end on the lowest point possible and decide to just roll from there with no intention of climbing back up.
They have to know having Ash win a league in Alola wont make up for Kalos or him winning anything for the next few years wont make up for it since it was easily the biggest falls they have had. If anything him winning would just feel cheap like a "Hey sorry about last time have a win this time" they might as well mail him a Kalo's trophy and say Alan cheated so here. All they can do is promise us better animation and not deliver and hope to God people don't drop the series.
Just going to throw this in because people here don't give a shit about the dub anyway, but I can see Disney pushing SM to the curb after awhile and giving primetime spots to the original series and maybe XY once people calm down.
