Unpopular opinion: I love anime!Iris.
Sure, maybe B/W wasn't written as well as what came before it, but I think out of all the girls she had the most dynamic personality, the most human backstory, and the most potential for a really great character arc. They squandered it a little, sure, but they really managed to make her endearing and I think the Ash-Iris-Cilan trifecta was one of the strongest traveling group friendships the anime's ever seen.
