I got my first shiny in Moon today. It was a shiny Beldum. I used a Smeargle with Superfang, tackle, heal pulse, false swipe and leftovers. Superfanged the beldum instead of false swiping it so Take down wont kill it. Took me 2 days and about 80 beldum to get it

I tried doing the egg hatching but I always lost patience after a box or two. Sure, you do have total control over the IVs here and even maybe the nature too... However, the SOS method still give strong IVs, even the hidden hability, and the shiny come relatively FAST!

It's actually harder to shape the perfect smeargle than finding the actual shinies.

Not at all. No, never.
For all the years I played Pokemon, I never 100% a dex to have it. Still, combining multiple games with the banks and a whole year of free events will help.
But for now, no charm.

Also, Togetomaru shiny in the wild. One shot. First time I ever come accross one. With a great nature. Shit IVs of course. It's almost at LVL80 now.

shoulda just used an alolan marowak, you can false swipe them to 1 hp and the only thing you have to watch out for is struggle since take down only has 20pp but i did a 100 chain in about 2 hours (gave up cus Im lazy tho)

I never counted. But it can take between 10 minutes to 1 hour to 4 hours of gameplay. It's random but the shiny WILL come. As long that you don't fuck up.

Also, don't keep the same mon alive. You're just asking for struggle trouble. I keep a mon alive for around 5 or 6 calls max then switch to another. As long that you don't leave the battle, the chain is not broken and keep going.

Using a smeargle with max love for you is the perfect way. The love shake off status condition pretty fast. Mine have Hold Back, Drink Milk, Recycle, an attack move that I change if needed, and a leppa berry.

Thanks, that sounds like a good set. I'd just been using my starter Decidueye with False Swipe, because its Ghost-type nullifies Normal-type recoil attacks, and I have about 300 Leppa Berries in reserve. But I may give that Smeargle set a try, that sounds pretty useful.

Smeargle is a weak 'mon, yes. But's it's really useful. However, it's a lot of work to build. There is some handy gudes out there to do so. Once you have your smeargle, you wont go back.

Why double battles? Go to the Smeargle spot, get your smeargle. Catch a trubish, be sure it know recycle. Go back to the smeargle patch, have a wild smeargle sketch recycle. Switch in your own smeargle and sketch yourself recycle. You can also face a ditto with the mon that have the move you want to copy. Besure it know only ONE move. Then switch in your smeargle and sketch.

Simple in theory, but it make for a lots of hoops to jump through. But in the end, very worth it.

SOS battles have a 4/4096 chance for a shiny after a chain of 70

IIRC Shiny charm boosts the odds by 3/4096 so this means 7/4096 when chaining

Masuda Method is 3/4096(6/4096 with shiny charm) if i'm not mistaken however MM works from the 1st egg while chaining takes 70 tries before it kicks in besides a chain seems to reset after 255 pokemon giving you 185 chances to get a shiny before you have to redo everything

Well, to have a whole shiny team, I think I'll need to do some breeding then. Next in line should be litten and I'll have to go to my YXORAS games to breed a female raltz and buenary from scratch to be sure they are 100% legit.

How does it even work?

I chained a ton of Bagons (looking for Salamence) and never found a shiny.

Farmed a shiny team for the elite four

Lurantis (chained 160)
Vikavolt (40)
Ribombee (200+)
Araquanid (120)
Wishiwashi (200+)
and Oricorio wich was significantly harder to chain (less call for help, 3x 200+ chain, 2 broken, out of pp)

they took from 20min to 7-8h to farm, so better watch stg on tv when you do it !

>Why double battles?

That used to be the easiest way to get the Smeargle you wanted, you'd just sketch your teammate. You can basically do that this gen with a roundabout method, which is to just chain Smeargles, although this is only needed if it's an attack move coming from a pokemon that will kill the wild Smeargle.

Say you want to sketch Soulsteel Strike from your level 100 Solgaleo for whatever reason. You just go find a wild smeargle, make sure it calls for help. Use Soulsteel Strike on the original Smeargle, killing it in the process, and the new Smeargle will sketch it. Switch in your Smeargle and sketch Soulsteel Strike from the wild Smeargle. Bam.

Status moves and False Swipe are much easier to sketch since you won't kill the original wild Smeargle with them, as are weak moves coming from pokemon incapable of OHKOing a level 8 Smeargle.

Got shiny a-rattata after a streak of less than 60. Shiny Bounsweet I stopped counting after 250, but I was watching Roy Rodgers movies while doing it, so it was chill. I'm on hour 4 of my hunt for shiny Cutiefly. It's John Wayne time now.
