Battle would take place on a stage surrounded by large screens. The screens would have trippy images and effects throughout the battle. The core of the gym is the first 4 pokemon which use and abuse status and hazards. Ariados sets up sticky web and toxic spikes, Crobat can spam Confuse Ray and Hyper Fang on a poisoned opponent, Toxapex can crit poisoned opponents, and Salandit would venoshock the them as well. Muk and Gengar are just to round out the team.

Ye it's Pirates, Araquanid is just there because I really like it and it could kind of function like a safe (an NPC mentions something about how it's water bubble would be a good place to store things), Gyarados is there for the whole big sea monster thing and because I think it looks like something that a Pirate would use. Octillery is a canon, and you were completely right about the others.

Actually taking the time to look at the stats, this seems like a pretty frail team. I excluded gen 1 fossil pokemon because I thought, for some reason, their stats were worse. But they're honestly not that bad and I'm wondering if I should get rid of an attacker in favor of something more defensive.. LOAR: Its an ice skating leader, you have to do a small ice skating performance for her or something and then she battles you. Her team revolves around hail; Ninetales has Snow Warning & is holding an Icy Rock. Every single special attacker has Blizzard and the two physical attackers have Slush Rush.

Gym would have a sleek, vibe - think apple but just a little tiny bit less pretentious. Lot of solar panel tech. You'd have to teleport around the place and redirect them with levers to reach the gym leader spot, which would be a back-room workshop full of half-built machines and a lot of Galvantula thread, because that shit's gotta make good wires, right?

Dialogue would probably be a little surprised to be caught in the middle of work, but welcoming once I got myself together; on defeat, inspiration hits from the player's performance and - after handing them the Zapdos-feather Lightning Badge.

Battle style puts a lot of emphasis on speed and fast pokemon; in higher tiers, Galvantula's set up to throw down Sticky Web asap, lots of use of Electro Ball, all that good stuff. Switch Zapdos with Electrode if you're much bothered by it.

Strategy revolves around setting down Toxic Spikes with Yamask/Cofagrigus and then attacking with boosted Hexes. In the final match if Cofagrigus lives long enough it might set up a Trick Room to help Marowak and Banette, or just use Custap Destiny Bond if it looks like it might go down before it manages that. If it fails a Trick Room, Marowak and Banette can still support with Will-o-Wisp to deal with steel, poison, and flying types.
Couldn't find an image I liked for it but Specter Badge is a nice name. Gym design is a giant ouija board.

Balanced progression and pokemon that throw the challenger for a loop. It's always unexpected to go into a fighting gym expecting to sweep it with your psychic or flying pokemon only to encounter a sucker punch or stone edge. Or likewise to be easily sweeping that same fighting gym with your Kadabra only to run into a Pangoro that resists everything your psychic type can throw at it.
