Since when did GF bother with making inside of buildings always match their outside appearances?

Stars will be both a "sequel" and a third version. It's going to be like how Emerald and Diamond took place a few months after the original games were supposed to have taken place. In Stars, Lillie steals Cosmog and you arrive to Alola 3 months after it was supposed to happen so by the time the story begins Kukui has already finished building all the Gyms and the League will have been set up.

It's supposed to dawn on you that they're going to be gyms at some point when you're going through previous towns after hearing Kukui talk about making a league. It's a neat bit of subtle foreshadowing.

Anyway, I do believe they are future Gym locations too. Idk if they exceed 8 but I hope 8 of them will be Gym-related.
