If I think I'm ever going to use it, I'll nickname my mons. Usually I try to tie it to the pokemon itself, make it a joke or a reference, but I'll just give them human names sometimes if I'm out of ideas. Some examples from my run:

Raichu named Proton
Whiscash named Johnny
Salazzle named Venus
Kommo-o named Gilgamesh
Decidueye named Robin
Muk named Petrol

Pokemon are pets that you make fight other people's pets. There's no reason not to at least give them names to distinguish them from everyone else's.

I got a random shiny fletchling while playing the main story in sun, i named her Saki, like the character from tatsunoko vs capcom

In my Pokemon X save i got a perfect infernape named gouki, the name akuma used before becoming akuma

My emboar from sun is named honda

My ambipom is naned luffy because i also count games like j stars and burning blood

And im still not sure if i like incineroar enough to call him Gief

If i get a jangmo o i think i'll call him Dio because i have seen art of them together

And finally i need to think of a name for haxorus because he was my best pokemon during most of the game and defeated kukui with a z move
