I was so ready to use this thing in doubles but then i saw that it hardly learned anything and was disappointed But at least move pools are easily fixed in future games so i can see it becoming a bit more popular in the future

naw but 7th gen pokemon are stupid easy to predict if you're even vaguely familiar with them. I hit it 9/10 times. I have both shell trap and flamethrower on mine so I can use one or the other depending on the opponent.

I use:
Fire Blast
Focus Blast
Dragon Pulse
Shell Smash
with EVs in SpA and Spe. Works pretty useably for me

I'm running one with Specs in Battle Tree singles right now, but only because Dragon+Fire STAB covers pretty much everything. Shell Smash doesn't seem worth it to me with that Speed but I guess it would give you really strong Shell Traps.

Also if you weren't aware Shell Trap + Firium Z gives you 200 BP on your Z move.

So I take it it's not worth it running a +Speed nature on this, just max HP/Sp.A and forget about Shell Smash?

Feel bad for this guy.

Shell Trap is very easy to predict and its just a matter of not using physical moves. Fire/Dragon is a great type with good STABs and he has good stats to use them with but he just doesn't hit hard enough. Speed's too low to run Shell Smash effectively.
