I apologize for buying this game. It felt too fucking easy to play. Plus the new Pokémon are either ass or pretty good. The battles felt way too easy past the third gym, and the annoying "friends" and "team flare" were terrible. Sun and moon may have not as much of a "postgame", but at least it gave us lots of exploration and lore, unlike X&Y, which just said "Here's a zygarde, who is our balance but he does nothing. Those "mega evolutions" felt cheap and pretty annoying in battle. Plus it was a popularity contest for many, and some didn't need them(I.e Kanto starters, mewtwo, and rayquaza, but it was pretty cool) the friend safari felt useless unless you had a lot of friends who play Pokémon, which I don't have or forget to get into contact with.

Yeah man, I reorganized all my boxes yesterday and cycled through the region to jog my memory. The chibi style got really dated really fast, it's amazing to think XY only came out 3 years ago too.
It's amazing, I remember spending 50+ hours taking my time with Y when it came out, I preordered it (got that cool Poke Ball 3DS cart case too) and was beyond hyped for it. While I still love nigh on all of the Pokemon designs for Gen VI and still believe that PSS is one of the best things to ever happen to the franchise, I remember absolutely NOTHING about the game.
I don't know if it's just me, but what I'm getting here (exaggerations notwithstanding) is that XY are very forgettable games that didn't age well. The ((((story)))) was a drastic step down from BW/BW2's overarching epic and the transition to 3D wasn't as smooth as it could have been; I blame Game Freak taking 3 years to release a main series game on the 3DS yet starting development relatively late, XY had a bunch of solid concepts and features that only required more finesse.
Compared to Gen V and SM, the soundtrack was also pretty lackluster. I can kinda recall the gym theme, the cover legendary theme and a few of the route themes, but that's pretty telling. I haven't played BW2 or DPPt in a good few years, but their soundtracks still hold up in my memory today.
tl;dr XY are forgettable games that didn't age well, they're neither good nor bad games
