Smogon Singles like any other meta of ANYTHING changes and evolves as time goes with periods of things becoming popular and then things appearing to counter that popular thing and the popular thing going back to obscurity and repeat endlessly. If anything Smogon Singles evolves further than VGC because it runs for longer rather than being cut short one year into it's lifespan.

I have no problem with legendaries, especially this year in which none of them seems to be as universally splashable as the genies, but turning battles into long stallfests hurst the game a lot. It basically goes from a test of skill to a test of patience, or simply sheer time-wasting. Maybe in the future people might learn to just forfeit when a celsteela mirror match happens and they have the lower PP total.

The only legends that I believe can be considered a real problem are the primals.

I seriously have no idea who the fuck thought it was a good idea to allow Primals alongside Megas. Mega Ray balanced itself because if you picked him you couldn't another Mega. With Primals you pretty much had a free mega on top of your real mega. It was super dumb. VGC16 would have been a pretty nice meta if not for that in my opinion.

Genis are a "problem" in the eyes of the casual player who's watching Pokemon for muh bro rather for the competition itself. I kinda agree with them at times of how tiring it gets to see them but even then I feel Cresselia and Heatran are better and more troublesome than the genies.

It's fairly straightforward at what it does, tanks well, sets up TR nicely, and can deal some decent damage. I use Discharge for coverage and double hitting, i'd recommend using it along side a Ground type or Marowak-A
