They're pretty dumb. Normal STAB is one of the best for neutral coverage, and with all the moves they can learn, they usually have something for Ghost, Rock, and Steel types. Defensively, they don't have any resistances, but they do have an immunity to Ghost which comes in handy, and they only have one weakness, not bad at all

Ignoring that they don't understand type matchups, Normal is good when dealing with it as a secondary type such as Alolan Meowth or using tanks like Snorlax and Evolite Chansey.

Ghost one makes little sense since both are immune to each other.

STAB hyper beam is nice, but that can be accomplished in other ways, ie an -ate/-ize ability, or simply the elemental versions of hyper beam.
