Fortunately for Pokemon, dating sim elements would mke it better, unlike with Fire Emblem.

They can make it work, they've done something rudimentary with Yancy and Curtis after all.

Hell, you could argue that eating at the restaurants and having some of the Kahunas join you count as dates. Or how after visiting Kiawe after his trial reveals that he got laid off from his job and he's been trying to earn money to study abroad could be seen as a sort of social aspect. You went out of your way to talk to this character again and get to know him more. If there were more social aspects then you could continue to do this, console Kiawe and befriend him, maybe even romance him. The ground work is already all there and... honestly, I wouldn't mind it at all. I'd rather they confine it to the postgame though so that players wouldn't be obsessed with it during the main game. They would be treated as side quests, but older players would rightfully acknowledge it as a sort of social or even dating aspect. Knowing Pokemon I doubt they'd make things explicit, probably about as far as Yancy/Curtis (with the NPCs basically having a crush on you and it's up to your self-insertion and projection to fill out the rest).

There are seven ultra beasts and 4 guardians, So what about the other 3? Obviously in game there was an opponent for each guardian but just how are they going to find other mons to even up the fight? Lore wise no usual mons can match the ultra beats powers and I doubt the 2 secret mons, Magearna and Marshadow can do it, Zygarde, Solagleo and Lunala?
