I keep looking at this picture, at how vast the ocean is, yet how you can see the island curving around with it, almost like you're in a giant pool that leads into the endless blue yonder. There are so many people just out there having fun. The sky is bright blue, you have skyscrapers and a volcano around as if they were protecting you, the palm trees are pretty, and the water is so many pretty shades of blue.

I liked Team Skull because they weren't too flash, people in-game would just say "oh team skulls a bunch of thugs trying too hard, don't mind them" and they were mainly there just to fuck shit up because they reveled in that with each other.

It was minimal like Team Rocket, but there was touch more personality to it which made up for the lack of successful crime they did in contrast to Rocket, in a way I think of it as a pre-evo to Rocket where they're not big time but they just do what they do to get up there and be feared/respected.

It was a breath of fresh air from shit like pirates wanting to flood the earth for fish, bowlcut 'astronauts' who were fine with wanting to destroy the universe because Cyrus was like "emotions and this earth sucks, lets just get rid of them", and until Lysandre whipped out some death cannon in X/Y, people who wanted to genocide the globe so only a world of 'better' people existed, etc.
Which in terms of Flare was disappointing because they were just about cash money at first but I guess when your legendaries are about life and death, it needed to be thrown in somewhere.

I know pokemon is all about super powerful creatures who can do shit like destroy moving trains just with one arm, but not everything needed to be about one kid saving the whole planet because the villains went to cartoony levels of insane that they wanted to fuck all of life up, just because.

Start with a Pokemon or two that you really like and build around it. In your case, maybe take Togekiss and bring in other members to cover its weaknesses, and then bring in more members to cover theirs.

Make sure you can hit every single typing for Super Effective damage.
Make sure that you have a defensive answer to every type of attack. Is Ground dangerous to your team? Bring in Flying/Levitate so your opponent has to think twice about spamming Earthquake.
Make sure your weakness overlap is minimum. Don't let half your team be weak to rock!
Make sure you have an answer to common dangerous situations. What will you do when something sets up buffs on you? What will you do when there's a stallfag with Toxic and Recover?
Have varied roles and movesets. Have support, have physical offense, physical defense, special offense, special defense. Don't underestimate support and status.
Held items make or break entire sets. Don't underestimate their great importance.

There's a whole lot to keep in mind and consider but that's the gist of it.

Where are the gym leaders to at least fend them off? Elite four? Champ? The formula mainly goes you encounter em a few times, you beat the boss by the 7th badge and they just fuck off altogether so you can get your 8th badge.

There are honestly much better beaches. It's a nice beach, but its been given over to the tourists. If you like that sort of safety, then good. The nearby marine reserve ensures that there are still a good number of reef fish if you're into that. Coral isn't great nearshore. Lots of services and water rentals as well.
If you want to ponder the vastness of the sea, the other side of the mountain is better. It looks out from a cliff with a path down to a more secluded stretch of beach. I've tried to understand several times that there is no land at all between that point and Antarctica, and I can only see until the horizon.
The area with all the trees past the last hotel is where it gets good for kids. The zoo is there and a big park is between there and the aquarium. I have great memories of all three areas. It's much calmer in that there, unless an event is going on in the park. Then it's just fun, albeit with a lack of parking.
