Weak argument. Gen 5 and 7 base exp off your pokemons level compared to theirs. Even if you have a lucky egg that exp goes from a whopping 34 to 68. Unless you do some hardcore grinding you'll never be more than 5 - 10 levels above your opponent. Plus, with enemy trainers now having Z-moves and IV/EV trained pokes, the likelihood of surviving with just one pokemon decreases.
