So you're most likely not going to encounter around 20 of the 100 new Pokemon on your first playthrough of GS. That's pretty substantial.

Some of these are just baffling too. How would anyone even realize something like Politoed even exists? The Kings Rock makes sense to use with Slowpoke, but not really with Poliwhirl. Same thing with Scizor. We know Steelix exists because of Jasmine and that guy with the Metal Coat on the SS Aqua. Nothing hints at a Scyther evolution.

I always wonder if Gold and Silver were designed this way in order to sell more guides and Nintendo Power subscriptions.

The only available dark-type before the E4 was Umbreon IF you had the time to level up an Eevee.

It's actually kind of surprising how much more effort were put into the Stadium models than the XY/SM ones. Every Pokemon had an idle animation and two attacking animations. In XY/SM, most Pokemon are missing idle animations for whatever reason, like most unpopular/unevolved. It's weird because things like Pikipek and Toucannon have them but not Trumbeak. Some Pokemon only get a single attack animation on top of no idle animation, like Sandile, Bonsly, Charjabug, and Gastly.

I didn't mind it in XY since GF had to design 721+ models for a single game but SM only introduced around 100 new models to do. They could have put a bit more effort into them.

The crazy thing is I forgot about mothim for years until it randomly showed up in one of my dreams one day. Ive hated Wormadam and Burmy as my least favorite Pokemon for almost 10 years and somehow forgot it had an actually nice looking split evo. Mothim has since become one of my favorite Pokemon.

I really want a shiny one but it's not worth the risk. Shiny mothim is beautiful yellow and Sky blue. Wormadam just gets a slight blue shade. Gender evos is such a curse

The problem with Gen 2 mons makes a pretty extensive list now that I think about it.

At the end of the day Gen 2 is also ultimately hamstrung by being the gen after the introduction gen but before the one which gave pokemon abilities, where a lot of mons derive their flavour. Without that they are basically Typing and Stats and boy did a lot of Gen 2 pokemon have shit stats. Any flavour they did attempt was mostly based in typing e.g. Heracross, Scizor, Skarmory and there were a few really neat designs like Steelix and Xatu.

Feraligatr is still by favourite Water starter and that can't be changed
