Gimmicks

Almost every new Pokemon has some ""unique"" ability or move.

More design variety with less dex numbers.

Because they realized megas were a mistake but like the idea of temporary/situational changes to a pokemon.

They are just going to hit 999. What happens once it reaches 1000? Usually the dex has three digits 001 to 802 and we're only 198 away from 1000, furthermore we're two generations from attaining 1000.

For real tho, I hope they make something awesome for mon 1000. Though they already made god so idk what can really top that.
