Well, glass is heated sand. Sand Rush, Sand Force, etc. are all common Rock-type abilities. The thematic of sand/glass probably belongs to the Rock type and that's the explanation.

This fluff was part of all of Pheromosa official descriptions and it's even reflected in the name, but actual gameplay completely disregards it.
This gen was really bad about inconsistent fluff in general. Nihilego is supposed to be a shapeshifter that resembles a girl on its own regardless of Lusamine craziness. Vikavolt.

Fighting/Fairy special attacker would've been hilarious because of Draining Kiss, and think of its wings as fairy wings. Xurkitree could've been Electric/Grass, and if they wanted 1 UB to be single typed, Guzzlord would be way better as pure Dragon.
